So KB and Souza are both taking ABs at South Bend tomorrow on the off day. I'd guess that means that they'll be back either Tuesday in Pitt or Friday back at Wrigley. So with that, plus the Martinez move, plus the likely lefty reliever move, we're looking at a good bit of roster shakeup this from where we were this weekend

Out: Chatwood, Phegley, Perez, Almora (?)

In: Lefty Reliever, KB, Souza, Martinez

I'd also like to see Alzolay up full time, but I've thought Underwood was on the way out several times this season so I doubt it'll happen coming off of a few good outings in a row.

And finally, the loaded Dodgers are attempting to zig while others zag, working on smaller deals in which they would part with some of their depth for prospects.

From Rosenthal's latest. If the price is right wouldn't mind grabbing Kiké Hernandez to further fortify the bench.

weird how he frames it as some bold strategy, best case scenario they are trying to make another trade they are working on payroll neutral worst case they are trying to lower payroll.

Wouldn’t mind adding Norris, he can help in the pen or rotation this year and is controlled next year to fill a rotation spot. Plus if the Rays are in on him and endorse him that tells me he’s a solid candidate.

I appreciate the Padres going “horsefeathers it, we’re on everything”. They’ve sucked forever and might steal a WS in this weird ass year

Seems like the Padres gave up a ton. You've gotta be real sure that Nola is the star he's been since getting called up last year, and not some Quad A flash in the pan.

I really want Marte. Add more guys that bring a different dynamic to the offense. He won't walk and he does chase more than i like but he also won't whiff, has plenty of power, and something we really need IMO- speed. This station to station offense gets very stagnant. Hes usually very efficient as a base stealer, 75% on his career and hasn't slowed down, notching 58 over the last 2 seasons. Plus he knows the division well and we'd have an option for next year. Hope we can land him.

I'm trying to recall why Taylor Trammell was hyped. He's not particularly young, more gap power. Production since his run in A ball has been okay but not great. I saw fangraphs Brett Gardner comp ... and Gardner is a fine player, but those guys, you are happy with their career when it ends, but you don't get excited about it that much on the way up. They've got some OF prospects in the system that should cover the loss of Trammell, perhaps sooner than later, although with the developmental system thrown out of whack, who knows on timing.

I actually really like the Padres moves here. They've attempted to shore up small areas of their roster to make a push now, dealing from their relatively deep system. They really haven't blown a hole in their system yet (guess there's still some more time). I'm not sure Austin Nola is as good as he's been, but he's a very nice end of the bench guy with a usable bat. AJ Preller's had a hit or miss history, but I think he's done a nice job this trade deadline so far.

Gallo is behind only Lindor on rumored availables Theo should not lose on. I'm not sure how available he actually is with the Rangers opening a new stadium funded with some $600+ million in taxpayer dollars, but that would be entertaining and impactful

Educate me on this one. This is like the exact guy I don't want to be traded to the Cubs. He hits home runs and that's about it. He'd be another guy who strikes out with a man on third and one out.

However, I will admit not knowing that much about him, so there could be a ton about his game I'm missing.

Seems like an underwhelming return for Clevinger, definitely more quantity than quality.

Yeah, I feel like that deal should have had someone better than Quantrill as the primary P. It's really impressive what Preller has done in aggregate. Bringing in all this talent without touching the top tier of their farm beyond Trammell is quite a feat.

Padres are probably the second best team in the NL now, and still have a young team and a good farm. That's awesome.

When you get upset about what has become of the Cubs since 11/2/16, just remember it's not as bad as the Indians.*

It’s so funny to me to see multiple pitchers from the 2016 Indians become household names when during the world series I was thinking ‘now is the time, kill the scrub’ because they weren’t Kluber or their bullpen of death.

Trading away starting pitchers (while in first place) is a giant kick in the nuts for the fans. horsefeathers "small market" economic BS

Scott looks really wild but has better stuff, Fry seems like the safer bet/not as good of stuff. Just looking at their FG page for 2 seconds

Scott's one of those guys I've wanted to poach for a while. He throws gas and allowed just 5(!!!!!) HRs in 256 MiL IPs to go with 321 Ks and 186 Hs allowed...I don't really see a huge ceiling though, that's Burl Carraway, and Fry might be the better choice thanks to being the better MLer and strike thrower before also finding a groove this season

Scott’s BB numbers scare me given our history with relief pitchers coming in who aren’t even as wild as him and losing their horsefeathers. 13% BB rate for career, 13% this year, 15% last year. Not doubt the stuff is there to be a thing but Fry seems safer.

With Chatwood likely going to the IL, and possibly done for the year and Q only a 3-4 inning guy currently I wouldn’t mind trying to find a swing man of some kind to help soak innings out of the pen and/or make some spot starts until Q is stretched out/in case another starter goes down. Adbert could be that guy I suppose but wouldn’t mind another guy who could at least go 2-3 innings out of the pen at min.

The Pirates have some guys like Brault, Williams, Kuhl and Tropeano who could kinda be that type of guy. They aren’t anything special but could be serviceable.
