it's insane that we couldn't even addord a couple decent relievers

Sadly, it's not surprising at this point. It's ridiculous how horsefeathering bad the FO is at this.

The offense and starting pitching might be for real. Is there any relievers already expected to be available on the trade block before the deadline (provided the season isnt cancelled)?

Didnt we have a pretty dominant bullpen from 15 to 18? I think one year they were looking really good and got hit with a slew of injuries which led to a few blown games (maybe 18?).

It feels like it's been varying degrees of butt for going on a third straight season now. But I could easily be wrong.

As Brett Taylor has said, I'd try Quintana in the pen to see if the stuff plays up and maybe he's one of the answers

When Q is back, is Chatwood the 9th inning guy? Maybe he could be the 8th and 9th inning guy.

No. Chatwood isn’t going to the pen unless he breaks and becomes wild thing again. Q in the pen makes more sense and/or go 6-man rotation and/or go opener/piggy back starts with Q and Mills.

Yeah with the start he's off to, Chatwood's upside in the rotation is too great, and I trust Mills enough personally. I don't think it'd necessarily be a permanent thing, but Quintana's stuff could be good enough in short spurts to make a difference this year

2015-19 Cubs relievers have the 11 most WAR, 3rd lowest ERA, 8th lowest FIP, 7th lowest xFIP. Top 10 in ERA every year since 2015, top 10 and FIP, xFIP and WAR every year since 2015 except 2019. Tied for 3rd with the Astros behind Dodgers and Yankees for lowest bullpen ERA 2017-2019. The sucky bunch of sucks out there have always gotten it done when they tried starting to win in 2015.

He looks excellent right now. Chatwood should definitely stay in the starting rotation... Quintana sucks and will be sent to the bullpen when he returns. That's not even a question or something to ponder IMO.
