Unless Black Monday is the offseason thread, I didn't see one so far, so I am creating it.

This CBA proposal for 17 game season is nuts. Are they really going to make it so that some teams play 9 home games and 8 road games and others play 8 home games and 9 road games and then compete head to head for playoff spots?

I'm wondering if they are going to try to have a 19 week season, 8 home games, 8 road games, 2 bye weeks and every team plays 1 neutral site game (like London). You get the 2 weeks back by shortening the preseason to 2 games instead of 4 (or 3 games and just start the preseason a week earlier). This way teams don't have to forfeit home games every year to ensure we have 3+ games in London.

one neutral site game each is something that has been talked about a lot in the past, but I have no idea if that's on the table here.

I would think between London, Mexico, Canada and the occasional non-NFL American city/stadium hosting it could be done in a reasonable fashion.

The NFL is gaslighting the hell out of the players. "This is the best it will get, each CBA is going to get worse for you going forward". horsefeathers right off

I can't believe any NFL fan really wants 17 games and 14 playoff teams. I certainly don't. But the owners are going to railroad the players into allowing it anyway.

Why not? More is better. I am heavily in favor of a 19 week (17 game) season with 2 byes, 1 neutral site, and 8 home/away games. Anyone who plays on Thursday has a bye the previous week.

Don’t really care strongly either way about 14 playoff teams. But I guess keeping the playoff hopes of more teams alive for longer makes the season more interesting for more fan bases.

Because the players are quite literally getting their brains beaten in enough. Perhaps the best player in my favorite team's history just retired before age 30 because of it. I like football, but there's enough football. I'm tired of games being added for no good reason.

More is not always better.

Freakish measurables at the Combine aren’t anything to get excited about.

in an offensive tackle they are

Why? When is full sprint speed ever useful for that position?

Nobody tell Derwood that Wirfs is also really talented.

Of course he's talented. That's not my point.

The combine is a place where everyone goes crazy about hand size and vertical jumps and 40 times, as if those are the only things that matter (as opposed to, say, actual game play)

Freakish measurable are something to get excited about when the freak is also freakishly skilled at the position.

The times and measurements can likely also confirm things you think of a guy/his potential and probably also can be predictive and correlate to future success/failure at certain positions. Even if the time/measurement doesn’t seem like it matters at a position.

Maybe the 40 is stupid to go by for an OL, but the 1.7 10 yd split is not. For comparison, Aaron Donald was 1.63 and 35 lbs lighter. It's really damn impressive Wirfs did at the combine. Edited by Splendid Splinter

penn state guys prefer to see the measurables in younger prospects.

The NFLPA narrowly approved the new CBA, so 17 games start in '21, and 14 playoff teams start this year.

The owners are smart. They upped the minimum salary by a pittance to basically bribe the poorer players with this terrible-ass deal.
