We suck hard. I just want this season to be over so I can move on in my life. I'm clearly incapable of looking away right now.

Weis is here to save the season, hopefully I won't be up until a meaningless game after the Cubs clinch the division after running off 7 straight wins and some help by the Dbacks, Reds and Rockies. Close this one down

It always amuses me that in the first draft of the new regime that was supposed to fix our drafting, we got Albert Almora (2.1 career fWAR), the Cardinals got Michael Wacha (10.8 career fWAR) picking 13 spots later.

Iirc, Correa was our target and they thought they had him and the Astros sniped him from us because they caught him at a workout day or game they weren’t even there to watch him or something right before the draft.

horsefeathering hell, don't tell us that.

So their backup plan was, what, just close their eyes and pick whoever they ended up pointed at?

I’m the biggest Almora hater you’ll find, he still was a successful pick. He made the major leagues and was somewhat productive for a stretch. Most first round picks don’t even make it. The problem was not developing him better or selling him off when he had some value before he sucked.

I had been under the impression that the main reason they picked Correa was they could sign him for cheap and spend more money elsewhere and the fact that he was good was essentially a bonus.

The cost was definitely a part of it. They got Correa for under slot and it allowed them to get Lance McCullers.
