In a relatively surprising development out of Chicago, the Cubs will option Carl Edwards Jr. to Triple-A Iowa, per Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun Times (via Twitter). Mike Montgomery, meanwhile, has been put on the injured list, per ESPN’s Jesse Rogers (via Twitter), who also announced the Edwards Jr. move on ESPN 1000 this morning. The Cubs have not yet announced the moves.

Allen Webster is likely to take Edwards’ roster spot, per The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma (via Twitter). No official word has come down from Cubs camp as of yet.

That’s not surprising at all. The only thing surprising is that it didn’t happen before yesterday’s game. He has sucked in every appearance, struggles to throw strikes, appears to have shot confidence, and was just forced to change his delivery overnight. No matter what you think of Carl long term, there is a [expletive] of benefit to letting him get his horsefeathers together in Iowa and coming back when he’s not going to be a threat to hurt the cubs every time he pitches

It's not that surprising given that our team doesn't know what they're horsefeathering doing with pitchers

This certainly sounds confident

The lack of confidence by Webster is not following what’s in the Cubs Way manifesto.

I often write in all caps when I’m serious. I’ve long touted Tseng as the next savior. Definitely wasn’t a stupid joke that the middling career minor leaguer had pitched a few solid innings.

The Rangers and the Cubs making more deals:

The Rangers announced Wednesday that they’ve signed right-hander Jen-Ho Tseng to a minor league contract. The former Cubs righty, who was designated for assignment released recently, will head to extended Spring Training begin a throwing program, per Rangers executive vice president of communications John Blake.

CEJ up Maples down.

Marlins are scoring 2.76 runs a game. If there's a team to help Carl get his feet back under him, it's the Marlins.

If the Marlins are looking for a pitcher to help them gain confidence, its Carl.

I know that it is an overaction for a 13th pitcher, but I don't like this. Maples had walked some guys, but has been unhittable. It is pretty clear Maddon doesn't trust him at all.
