There may also be scenarios where certain players just really need to start making ends meet for their families. I'm sure it would be enticing for some players if they were offered 100k with full health insurance and with a stipulation that college would be paid for if they were ever went back to finish their degree.

Although if we're being honest, the elite players in the mold of a Trevor Lawrence are already being compensated, along with their families. So the scenario where a super stud leaves college for the AAF because they really, really need the money is going to be rare.

fwiw, with these current AAF players, in addition to their 3year/250k salary, the league will also pay for 2 years of post-graduate schooling, which is pretty cool.

Yea, i would think if anything it will be character issue guys who get dropped after a year or two in college and decide to do this rather than try JC or some other college redemption route.

Tickets to the San Diego Fleet game this weekend are $30 regardless of where you want to sit. It's supposed to rain for their first home game, but even still, I'd venture to guess that the crowd for the game on Sunday will be comparable or even bigger than a Charger game this year. And that's coming off a loss in week 1 where they didn't score a single td.

Pretty sure San Diegans will be wanting to give Spanos a big FU!

- character issue college guys

- JUCO guys that just want to start making money

- 4th string/practice squad types who want to play and have film

One good thing about there only being 8 teams is that the talent won't be so diluted. Most everyone on those rosters are legit NFL-ish talents.

Yea, basically all these guys are 90 man offseason roster good based on the numbers. That's not nothing.

You sometimes see guys leaving 2 years of college eligibility just to become UDFA. You may see more guys start leaving 3 years of college eligibility to basically be the equivalent, and still be draft eligible the following year.

Agreed on the Lawrence point, I think their best hope would be some guy who blows up at Akron and doesn’t want to sit out a year to go to P5
Which probably would force the NCAA to waive the one year sitting out if a player transfers. I doubt they want to lose talent before they have to.

Football just doesn't feel right in Spring. No matter how well a Spring league is advertised or marketed, it just doesn't work. It's unnatural.

Not only that, but the entire business model of football is predicated on irrational fan emotional investment bringing you out to the stadium once or twice a year for many, and maybe 6 or 7 times for the rest of people. You cannot expect there to be any "fans" of pro sports teams for a generation. It's a longterm investment. You have to be willing to take lumps early on unless you are selling things like first class facilities and access to the best players in the world (expansion teams). You'd be better off not wasting money on "name" coaches either.

Hit the nail on the head. Fandom has to be earned and it's hard to earn it with a sub-par product.

Well I guess McMahon is happy. If the AAF was AAA-ball, the XFL would have been AA regarding the level of athletes he'd have been stuck with. I guess now he gets his pick. The JFF vs. Swag Kelly matchups will be fun.

As I said, I think the one lasting legacy of the AAF is that we will see a San Antonio team sooner rather than later.

They'd be better off not worrying about getting the best level of players possible and do something crazy like divide teams into former college conference.

Hell you could probably fill a stadium in Iowa every weekend just by having former Hawkeyes and Cyclones.

yeah, the AAF sorta low-key tried something like that. Each team had a collegiate region they could draft from or something like that. I'm not sure how it'd work, but it'd be a fun idea. Using the teams that are listed as having XFL teams in 2020:

Seattle and LA - Pac 12 players

Dallas and Houston - Big 12

St Louis and Tampa - SEC

Washington - ACC

New York - Big 10

A really lucrative TV deal would help too.
