I assume that Wrigley Field's name is somehow protected as a Chicago landmark? Otherwise I would have assumed that Ricketts would have renamed it "The Sean Hannity Radio Call-In Show Field" by now

A google search of 'Wrigley Field naming rights' returns several articles that talk about selling them (as in would it be worth it) with no reference to it not being legal with the landmark status. I wouldn't care if the they did something like "Wrigley Field at Gallagher Park" (if the money was truly going to baseball, of course)

the ricketts have consistently made promises about keeping the name. i remember kenney promising the name remaining for the foreseeable future a few times at cubs conventions, because this is a thing people care a lot about.

The sign is, I believe, so even if the park changed its name, the sign would still be there.

Clearly the Ricketts/Crane found a loophole that they get some sort of tax benefit for having naming rights on the stadium for below market rates.

I wouldn’t be surprised, or really care, if in the next decade or so we do see the Wrigley Field at XYZ company Park/Stadium type deal thag was mentioned above.

I'm not spiritually wedded to any naming rights convention. I just don't necessarily believe any particular revenue stream will be used for baseball operations. It's been a long time since I've believed anything owners say about finances.

You (and I) may not care. But there will be some next level meatball rioting going on if they ever mess with Wrigley Field's naming. They've been able to do a lot of smaller naming rights, like Gallagher Way, Audi Legends suite, Nuveen Investments suite, and Budweiser Patio and I imagine they'll continue to go with that strategy, since the name of the field is so iconic.

Yeah one of the articles I skimmed this morning mentioned that Yankee Stadium has each gate sponsored, which seems like a next logical step for Wrigley.

I'm not positive, but I think the Cubs are more or less there.

"American Family Park" doesn't have a terrible sound to it.

"American Family Insurance Park" does.

Regardless what it's called, it's still the Division Champion Brewers on the field.

The Venn diagram of the turds that would lose their minds over the stadium name, and who also LOVE not "overspending" on someone like Harper is DEFINITELY a solid horsefeathering circle.
