The Bears are coming off 5 straight wins and got a little extra break after the Thanksgiving game. They are currently favored by 4.5, and I believe that takes into account expectations that Mitch will miss this game. The Giants have won 2 of 3 games, and have covered the spread in every game they were more than a field goal underdog. Eli has been sacked 38 times this year (and the Giants only have 14 sacks on defense), so the Bears should really abuse him.

The Giants beat 2 terrible teams in the Bucs and the Niners. For all the Lions' woes, they lost a bunch of games against good teams recently (CHI x 2, SEA, MIN). Their season is tanked but it wasn't because they blew games against chumps.

It's a tough call for me with Mitch. The Giants are one of the two most winnable games that would put the Bears into the playoffs. But the conservative approach is the right thing to do from a health standpoint. Chase played well last week but would it continue at NY? Impossible to say; not enough data. Also could the Bears D just win this thing on their own? Possibly.

Ugh. I guess I fall on the side of having Mitch sit.

Unless he's 100%, have him sit. I was hoping with Trubisky out, they would have been more creative with Howard and Cohen.

The most important game left is week 17. That is the one likely to have tiebreaker implications. Otherwise it's just a race to 10 wins. If you wanna be super duper optimistic the following week against the Rams will have Bye week tie breaker implications.

Either way, sitting Trubisky is the easy choice if he is anything less than 100%

eh, Bears win on Sunday w/a Vikings loss puts MN deep in the hole - MN plays at NE. I'd hate to let off the gas pedal. Besides, who is 100% at this point in the season? As long as you aren't risking further or permanent injury to Mitch's shoulder and the pain doesn't limit him, I don't see why you sit him. If he's limited because of the injury then you start Daniels.

I get the sentiment but waiting for 100% is beyond extreme caution.

It can be 100% on a curve I guess, in the sense that a little wear is normal in week 13, but no sense rushing him back at all for this one.

if the vikings had lost last night, i'd agree

but if we lose this one and minnesota beats new england our sphincters will be pretty tight.

now that GB is all but out, I'd like to get MN out of the picture as well. But how would MN beat NE? The vikings haven't looked all that special this year. Last nights win against GB is probably more an indication of how bad GB has been playing. Isn't their secondary riddled with injuries?

Yep, it is banged up. They did draft secondary though, and they let Ha Ha Clinton-Dix go because they saw more upside in their new guys. I think Tramon Williams in the main vet now and he's been moved around.

Reminder that ther isn't a single situation where tiebreakers will come into play for the Bears this year unless they run the table and tie the Rams/Saints for a bye

Most likely, the week 17 game will be meaningless for the Bears, having locked the 3 seed ahead of the game

You SHOULD be able to beat the Giants without Trubisky, but if you don't......

Things get dicey. If Mitch can play, though he should. With the Vikings tie and the Bears' 3 game lead on the WC, the last game is more likely to NOT to matter than it is to make a difference in playoffs or not. Good chance to sit Mitch week 17 if you win this one.

With Daniel, this isn't a slam dunk on the road against a team that is playing better of late.

If they tie any game, tiebreakers could come into play with Vikes for the division. Or if they lose grounds to the Vikes, tiebreakers could come into play for WC.

Ties, though more prevalent this season, have occurred in 2 of 176 games, about a 1% occurrence. Planning for that possibility is a waste of effort.

As for tiebreakers for wild cards, the Bears own the tiebreaker with Seattle, and they've got the common opponent tiebreaker with Carolina wrapped up, being 4-0 vs 2-2 with just the Giants game remaining.

What about 3+ team tiebreakers?

The only way the Bears could lose out on the playoffs on this is if Seattle loses to KC and the Bears still lose enough to tie them and the Vikings win out to pass them and some other team wins enough to pass the Bears, because they finish at worst 2nd with any 3+ team tiebreaker (thanks Miami loss).

really stings to have lost all three of those games that could have easily gone the other way knowing that we could otherwise be in a position to make the rams and/or saints come through cold ass soldier field in january

i would feel a bit better about our superbowl chances if we could have those teams at home

not to mention the obvious benefits of the bye

For me the Dolphins game stings the most. Osweiler, good lord.

that loss really sucked but idk if i remember a worse regular season loss (independent of playoff implications or whatever) than week 1 in my entire couple of decades watching this team
