I look forward to the “ ____ outs until Hader comes in” posts after Q gives up an early homer.

While Quintana has been nails against the Brewers this season, he HAS given up a dong to them in 5 of his 6 starts. It's unfortunately probably gonna happen.

Some random stats related to this game:

-Brewers have a .901 team OPS over the past 7 days, .786 over the last month. But overall they have a .747 OPS for the season (though of course they've added people midseason).

-However against the Cubs, they have a season OPS of .597, by far the lowest of any team they've played more than 4 games against (they have a .587 OPS against the Indians in 4 games which is the worst). The next closest is the Dodgers at .667. We've shut them down pretty much the entire season.

-Granderson, Cain, Moustakas and Kratz are the 4 that have hit us well this year (over .800 OPS). Some Brewers that have struggled include: Aguilar (.593 OPS in 53 PA), Braun (.582 OPS in 67 PA), Shaw (.537 OPS in 53 PA), and the golden boy Christian Yelich (.461 OPS in 64 PA)

-For the Cubs, they have a .716 OPS over the past 7 days, and .652 over the last month. This has dropped them to a .745 OPS for the season.

-And similarly, the Cubs have a season OPS against the Brewers of .611, 2nd lowest to only the Diamondbacks (.607). They've shut us down pretty much the entire season.

-The only 2 Cubs with an OPS over .800 against the Brewers this year are Caratini (.815 in 27 PA) and Heyward (.804). Some Cubs that particularly have struggled against Brewer pitching: Baez (.683 OPS in 72 PA) Bryant (.587 OPS in 60 PA), Rizzo (.503 OPS in 64 PA), Schwarber (.475 OPS in 47 PA)

-As has been stated a lot, 9 of the 19 Brewers-Cubs games this year have been shutouts, 6 pitched by the Cubs, 3 by the Brewers.

-Overall, the Cubs are averaging 3.2 runs per game against the Brewers, while the Brewers have averaged 2.8 runs per game against the Cubs. Looking only at the 2 September series, its 2.7 runs per game for the Cubs and 4.5 runs per game for the Brewers.

Chacin announced as the starter. Well that was worth all the subterfuge.

Who's got his numbers against the Cubs?

the internet says the cubs have about a 540 OPS against him this year.

You must have read it backwards; that seems WAY too high.

Made 4 starts against the Cubs this year, gave up 0 or 1 runs in 3 of them. The 2 most recent ones in Sept - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, and 4.2 IP, 7 H and 5 R so we've had recent success against him

Pretty interesting and succinct breakdown of the pitching scenarios for all 4 teams playing today. Basically, Cubs are in the best situation by far. If Quintana is nails today not only would it be awesome to win this game, but there’s a good chance we face a team in the NLDS that has really abused their pitching to get there.

Maybe. But if the Rockies don’t use Freeland tomorrow, he is good for games 1-5 and Marquez is good for another one. The Dodgers can get Kershaw (big game struggles aside) for 1-5 and have a lot of other good pitching to pitch the other games. With the Brewers, none of their starters particularly scare me more than the others, they are all somewhere between adequate and pretty good.

Yeah the Dodgers and Rockies are only in trouble if they lose today and have to play tomorrow. They’ll be fine for the NLDS.

I say Quintana just serves up meatballs to Cain in the first AB to get the inevitable dong out of the way, then just walk Yelich every single time he's up.

While this isn't a playoff game I'd like to point out that the Milwaukee Brewers franchise has played 32 playoff games in their history.

The Cubs have played 36 playoff games in the previous 3 seasons.

Brewers have been pretty garbage in day games and not as good on the road. Are Q’s splits bad at home and during the day?

He's pretty much the same not so great dude on the road and at home (gives up a bit more power at home)...and his 2018 day numbers are HIDEOUS.

If I'm reading the wind right it looks like its blowing from the east so that would be more of a cross wind, possibly slightly out to LF right?

In the long run it's a non-issue, but I thought Joe was done with the whole "pitcher batting 8th" nonsense for this year.
