Who the hell is Cody Reed? Well, whatever. He sucks, so he's clearly going to go 7 shut out innings.

Huh, apparently the Cubs have kicked the crap out of this guy before:

2016: 2 GS, 8 IP, 11 ER

2017: 1 GS, 2 IP, 7 ER

However, in 2018 in relief: 2.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 K...

Take away the two Brewers series and the Cubs are 13-4 in their last 17 games.

Take away the two Cubs series and the Brewers are also 13-4 in their last 17. Unfortunately, they're 19-6 17-6 if you include the Cubs series.

The Cubs look horsefeathering exhausted. Ideally, you'd win today and use tomorrow as the big rest day, the day before a long flight to Arizona. However, you have a pretty crappy lefty pitcher who's 4 starts in after being in the bullpen all year against your ace who's been pitching pretty well of late. You should have whatever's left of the good relievers fully available today.

I'd probably start something like:

Happ, Almora, Bryant in the OF

Bote, Russell, Zobrist, Caratini in the IF

Contreras catching.

Win today with those guys, and I might actually sit 3 of Rizzo, Baez, Murphy, Bryant, Zobrist on Sunday too. Still would have that 1/2 game lead if you lose and the Brewers win. Plus, I'm not too worried about the division since the wildcard is still a very real option and it's likely going to be a Cubs/Brewers NLDS anyway, where the Cubs are essentially the home team either way.

Sooooo....is Heyward dead?

Sure, dude can't hit much, but he at least works a count and plays baller defense. Anything to keep Almora off of the horsefeathering field.

He's still on the DL

Sounds like he could be close. He’s been doing like full batting routines before games and some OF/running drills.

Yes, obviously; thank you, Derwood. Thankfully, Cubswin11 realized I was talking about how it seems like we've heard absolutely nothing about whether or not he's due back any time soon.
