Reality.

You realize that THREE teams would have to pass us in the standings for that to happen, right? Fangraphs has us as 99.9% to make the playoffs. Your doom boner is based on a mythical situation. A boom boner based on DVDA fantasies. Reality has nothing to do with it.

I know what I’m seeing. You do too. Weren’t we over 90% to win the division a few games back?

Quit with the “doom boner” crap. It got old years ago.

Finally, I said possibly. And it is possible.

Don't shake a doom boner in my face and tell me its raining, son.

Does firing the hitting coach in mid September give the Cubs a magic offensive bump? It doesn't hurt to try. How could they get any worse?

Hickey - Failure

Davis - Failure

Chatwood - Failure

Duensing - Failure

Darvish -Failure

Morrow - depending on a guy that pitched every game to end last season.

Have I missed anything?

I feel like some team did that a few years ago but I can’t remember

Letting Almora bat. Not using Schwarber to PH. Joe is not good.

Schwarber was used

Whelp, don’t I look stupid.

But I did t watch this game. So it evens out:

Furthermore!!

It’s two teams. We’re as good as passed by the Brewers.

If I'm looking at this correctly, and that's a big if, I think we are six games in the loss column better than any other team for the second Wild Card.

I find that really, really difficult to think we'd blow that, and if we do, we had an epic and complete meltdown. At that point, I'd be cool calling it a season.

We’re not missing the playoffs. That said we should really start prepping ourselves for the possibility of just the 1 playoff game this year.

We have a 1 game lead on the Brewers. That is a fact. There is no possible scenario where we do not currently have a lead over the Brewers.

They put in Schwarber to start the inning, Brewers went to Hader, Bote came in for Schwarber and promptly struck out. You could argue they should have saved Schwarber but I'm wondering if the Brewers go to Hader either way.

Jeebs I suck at humor that was supposed to end the discussion on a lighthearted note.

Something needs to be done about Maddon and also everything else about this team.

Seriously?

While Madden has made some questionable moves at times, who really is producing at a good rate and not getting playing time? Bottom line is it rarely seems to matter who gets playing time lately. The whole team right now is very average at best. Very little timely hitting....or hitting period. Starters can’t pitch past the 5th. Relievers can’t get guys out. Defense has been less than stellar.

Madden may not be managing at his best, but his players have been nowhere near their best for most of the season, save a couple of players.

He put Carl Edwards into a tie game with guys on 2nd and 3rd.

Yeah this team should be manager proof, Chili and Hickey have to go

Also, why the horsefeathers are Hader and Jefferies not blowing up at this point? I swear they throw 25 pitches every other day.

Baseball's weird. The Cubs rode a pretty long stretch where they didn't suffer much, if any, major injuries to key pitchers over the previous 3 seasons.

Schwarber’s back is still an issue according to Joe. He was used as a pure decoy.

yes, gameplay to 'force' the other side to bring Hader in... smooth move

I'll tell you what's weird. Daniel Murphy has four horsefeathering home runs with the Cubs. Addison Russell has horsefeathering five.

ETA: Also, bad choice of words. Not blowing up like getting hurt, but why aren't they starting to suck a lot more at this point? I would think they'd be getting tired.

What reliever should have been used? An overused Cishek that early? Maybe an underused Strop that early? What reliever makes you ooze confidence?
