Rizz - arguably the most under appreciated, upper echelon player in the game over the last 4 to 5 years - is off to quite the slow start. Thought it would be interesting to track him in one thread as the season goes on.

Rizz is effectively one month into his season, having played 26 games and made 122 PA's. As of this morning he's sporting an ugly .213 / .295 / .370 slash line. He's also "off" relative to his career averages in a number of advanced stats:

- LD% is down 3 points to 17%

- Pull percentage is up 6%

- Opposite field percentage is down 5%

- Walk % is down nearly 7 points to 4.9%

- BABIP is down 75 points at .209

Good news is that his hard contact % is virtually the same as past years, his medium contact % is up a good bit, and his soft contact % is down significantly.

I haven't noticed anything different in his swing, but perhaps others have - note it below if you see something. Will update this periodically.

This **might** have been relevant two weeks ago. But since then he’s gone on a tear.

OPS in Mar/Apr. .448

OPS in May 1.143

BABIP has gone from .172 to .286.

No need to update. Update is in: he’s fine. He’s always been fine. He will always be fine.

Also, we already have a rizzo thread.

Your post kind of reminds me of the guys at work who have been there 40 years and reject anything new or different because, 'We've never done it that way before!"

More like, “great suggestion, but we fixed that problem two months ago. Pay attention in meetings. Also, we're gonna need to go ahead and move you downstairs into storage B. We have some new people coming in, and we need all the space we can get. So if you could go ahead and pack up your stuff and move it down there, that would be terrific, mmmKay?”

it's just kind of odd timing given he's been blazing hot for several games now

it's still weird to me how people (not on here...just fans in general) are still talking like rizzo is having a terrible year

yes, obviously april counts and makes his overall numbers look really bad, but he's been an absolute monster in may

14.2% BB rate, 8.5% K rate, .295/.396/.557... .402 wOBA and 155 wRC+

he's also doing this with a not that great BABIP of .267

he was awful and maybe even playing hurt in april, but i don't think there's anything to worry about here at this point.

also, i realize most of you know this but i just had to vent a little after hearing some hot takes at lunch

if rizzo's season goes south, you can blame me, because i traded goldschmidt for him and some draft picks in a fantasy league at the first sight of rizzo's turnaround

Well, look who's back and just bust his restraining bolt all over the place.

Still needs more dong. I think he is somehow back to normal, though.

Dude, he's hit 6 dongs (or, as us smarty types call them, HR) this month.

I guess I take it back. Looks like he had a dong binge early in the month but hadn't hit one for awhile before yesterday. I figured his slugging was largely doubles-dependent, but it appears not.

Still, one can never have enough dongs.

that actually occurred to me while i was pulling this up. I haven’t decided where i stand, but i feel like this could be a debate on the level of whether a hot dog is a sandwich.

Suddenly, even Rizzo's overall stat line doesn't look horrific

.251/.356/.435

.342 wOBA 115 wRC+

Noticed that last night. Another month and he'll probably be close to normal.
