Meaning you think he's setting himself up to take over in New England? Would you want to be the first coach up after ~20 years of Brady/Belichick dominance (assuming Brady goes when Belichick goes)?

Well the recent rumors from a few weeks ago was a Kraft/Bellichick power struggle. Since Brady just threw for like a bajillion yards, it doesn't seem like his retirement is anytime soon. McDaniels might feel like taking a bet on the NE job opening in 2019 with another year or two of Brady.

I believe McDaniels did the Colts a favor, stings now but, it'll work for them in the long run.

 

Glad the Bears did not attempt to hire McDaniels, don't look now but, Bears may have gotten something right with this new coaching staff.

I saw a kinda stupid conspiracy theory but also kinda believe because these are petty billionaire owners and this is mostly their hobby. It was that the Patriots, specifically Kraft and Belichick, still absolutely loathe the Colts from their role in the deflate-gate stuff and this was a pre-planned, coordinated thing to horsefeathers with the Colts and that they told McDaniels to play along and screw with them with no intention to ever take the job and he'd get a extension/raise for doing it.

I do not doubt that the pettiness of kraft played a role, but I do doubt it was pre-planned the way described.
