Damn, seemed like a good dude (don’t know how great a coach he was) but seemed to be legit friends with a lot of the guys seeing them interact in the dugout. Good for him though. Part of having an amazing team/organization is losing coaches to promotions.

not gonna lie, this does not trouble me in the least.

especially since he wasn't our 1b coach any more giving rizzo bear hugs

Would Ross be a candidate to take Hinske's or Martinez's spot? Or like Borzello's if he gets bumped up to one of those spots? Or is he still to hated by the teammates?

But the players all hate him. Just saying what we were all thinking.

A friend of a friend of mine in LA works for Dancing with the Stars and talked to him yesterday apparently bc he’s in LA for to watch WS game(s). No clue if she will talk to him again but I can ask her to ask him if he’s interested in taking on a role like that (prob like 2 percent chance that actually happens - but believe I can trust this girl)

I don't see him taking Hinske's spot, but I think him as bench coach (if Martinez leaves, obviously) makes a ton of sense.

Bench coach is a job with a bit of prestige, I'd be surprised if they moved Ross straight to it given he hasn't done any coaching before. If we're talking about outcomes that get Ross on the MLB staff, Borzello to bench coach and Ross to catching instructor makes the most sense to me.

I dunno, the league has players being hired as managers now as their first coaching jobs...Ventura, Counsell, Ausmus....

Being a bench coach as your first coaching gig seems conservative in comparison.

Alex Cora just went from player > espn analyst > Astros bench coach > Red Sox manager in the span of like 4 minutes

He retired in 2011, spent 4 seasons as an analyst and a full year as bench coach on a good team.

And apparently worked as the PR's GM in the WBC, for whatever that is worth.

Is this a line from West Side Story?

I watched West Side Story Last night. I'm sure this is more than frequency illusion. The whole world is deeply connected. and West Side story is the hub.

Yeah, a good number of catchers who were "leaders and good clubhouse guys" as players get hired directly as MLB managers or go straight to being bench coaches. They already are involved in all the managing stuff to some extent as players.

It's your other position players who generally go up through the minor league managing system first.
