Week 8 - Single digit passing attempts team vs. Old Man McGee

Mitch is not good at finding the rare open receiver. This coaching staff and roster is probably going to waste whatever NFL skill he may have.

i'm really liking Payton right now to replace Fox.

wasn't this theory predicated on the saints having a mediocre or worse season and payton needing a change of scenery

Surrounding a "franchise" qb with these receivers is football malpractice.

i'm putting shaheen on my horsefeathers list if he doesn't develop some chemistry with mitch now that miller is out

Not fair putting a horsefeathers receiver on the horsefeathers list, he belongs no where else.

well, he's a rookie, too. kind of hard to pretend he's been in the league 10 years or something. he gets until the end of the season to show something until i declare him shitty

He's winning the division this year in a season when he wasn't going to contend. The bears have no chance.

Brees is on his last legs, though.

Frank Reich is kind of enticing, as well.

F** it, Deshaun Watson will forever be a better QB than Trubisky

The souring on Watson by NFL GM's is among the more baffling things of recent drafts

Really pisses me off that his career might have ended with a horribly overturned TD call

Still can’t believe they did that. Can’t accept it’s over for him.

please please fire him in season

Here's the report from the actual article. Sounds more like imminent means "end of season" to me but I could be wrong. If they were going to do it in season it would likely come within the next 2 days otherwise it won't be until end of year.

John Fox, Bears: The next two coaches I am going to list are doing great work in a lot of ways. They have teams with not much talent in some key spots, who are playing very hard, and staying in every game and who actually should have even more wins than they have … but given the realities of their situations coming into the season, it's not going to be enough. The Bears defense is playing out of its mind with Vic Fangio leading that unit (more on that below) and won some games with raw rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, but the rumblings about imminent change in Chicago are strong. Fox has nothing to be ashamed of at 3-5 with this team, but even if they duplicate that record in the second half I foresee changes here after two already-lean years in Chicago.

They've bought a Ferrari body and are currently using a Hyundai engine, to get it some run.

I'm not sure why we're supposed to trust Pace, with any of this either. He signed MIKE GLENNON, to be the starter. He DID pass on Watson, which is neither here nor there right now.....But, its certainly not far fetched to see Watson having a better career than Trubisky either. Pace also hired Fox. And he's to look at for our current group of receivers too. He's built one side of the ball in 3 years.

Trubisky has the necessary tools. But, he needs better play calling and an entirely new set of receivers just to SEE if he's going to be good.

It was one of the main reasons I wanted to hold off on taking the QB.....You were setting his development sideways by changing coaching staffs on him right off the bat. Again, its done. Won't have a hard time finding guys wanting to coach him either. But, it still sucks he's going to go thru that, this quickly. And it really sucks that he's going to need a complete set of receivers to throw to, as well. That's putting him in less than a favorable spot to succeed, to say the least.

I was thinking this was a possibility for the first time today. All those first and second down runs leading to three and outs really hosed the Bears in this game. At one point in the fourth quarter, I think the possession after the Miller overturn, it was 14-6 with the Bears backed up at their own 10 yard like or something. They ran it twice, then threw on 3rd and 12 or something and went three and out. They punted, the Saints got it at midfield and marched the 20 or so yards necessary to get 3 points.

When they got the ball there it seemed clear that if they went three and out the Saints were going to get the ball close in enough in for a layup score. At that point, shouldn't a conservative coach want to play field position and do anything possible to avoid a three and out punt?

Trubisky didn't play incredible once they loosened the reins, but it should've been clear that they weren't going to win the game running on virtually every single first down. I think they could have won if they had mixed up the plays better. It would be great if this was the game that prompts Pace to fire Fox, let Fangio take over and use the bye week to figure things out.

Just threw a bomb to Will Fuller on his first past in the toughest stadium to play in. Yes, he wouldn't nearly be good on the Bears but it's looking like the Bears screwed up.

read the article. throwing bombs isn't what makes QB's good.

Then read this article: http://uproxx.com/ksk/f-k-it-im-throwing-it-downfield/

Edit: geez it's been awhile since I've read that article and my worldview and tolerance for words in that article has changed. Maybe don't read it

Magary just called himself out for that kind of thing this week (and trying hard to be different and better), and mentioned that one specifically. He's a good dude:

why? Goff went through that, Rodgers had to learn McCarthy's playbook, the list of great QBs who had multiple systems early in their careers goes on and on. it's absolutely horsefeathering asinine to hold off on taking someone that you think will be your franchise just because you're afraid you'll change offensive systems. if he's smart enough to be a franchise QB, that new playbook will be nothing for him to learn.

As far as Pace signing Glennon.....Pace knew he was taking Trubisky, he knew Glennon was a stopgap. There were no real warning signs to tell anyone that Glennon was going to do what he did. He was capable in Tampa, highly capable.....as long as you had someone waiting in the wings, Glennon would have been an average starter and a good backup. his choke-job in Chicago was unforeseeable.

Pace hired Fox because he was a first year GM and Fox was an absolute safety hire, a guy who had been successful everywhere he had been, and the anti-Trestman. Fox was hired to bring in a superior staff, which he did. I probably would have just hired Gase, but whatever.

If you take the reigns off him now, I'm honestly not sure it helps or hurts his development. He's not great at finding receivers currently, so throwing him into the fire, especially with THIS group of receivers? I just don't know.....

If you do it, we'd probably lose games worse than we currently are, in my opinion. I think I'd stick towards the 20-25 passes attempted area for the next 2-3 games anyway, just not the dumbass run, run, throw horsefeathers we've been doing. If you beat GB and Detroit and go to 5-5, you've got to do whatever you can to make the playoffs.

If you lose those though, or even 1 of them, to drop to 4-6.....You're at Philly and staring 4-7 in the face. At that point, let him air it out the rest of the year.

Eh, I'd still have preferred Mitch not needing to go thru this. But you're right, it won't hinder him to the point it'll doom him. If he's going to be good, he'll be good.

Its not JUST the Glennon move though. Its very fair to question whether Pace can put together an offense. Which makes me question if he's going to give Trubisky what he needs to succeed.

if you followed draft rankings, they didn't sour on him. he was a projected 2nd round talent most of his last year of college.

OK, T.Y Hilton is available. He's evidently wanting to stay put and not renegotiate his deal, he's owed 11,13,and 14 the next 3 years, his 28-30 year old seasons. Ballard probably wants an upper mid round pick for him, according to Rotoworld.

Go get him.

Juju Smith Schuster would look good on the Bears. But I'm sure Adam Shaheen will be well worth the pick.

Shaheen may very well be a bust, but you're not hitting on every pick. I'm not even a fan of Pace, but I'm not about to start questioning individual picks. I wasn't a fan of this draft, as a whole, at the time. But, even though you're hung up on Watson, its far too early to judge QB's. Cohen was a nice grab, so was Jackson. And Trubisky has the necessary tools too. If Shaheen busts, this is still likely a damn good draft.

I'm really curious what part of this team make you think Ferrari body.

Fieri body maybe.
