why would the dodgers suck next year? i'm looking at their roster and payroll capacity and having a hard time understanding that one.

Bullpen had an outlier year and not sure the performance of the position players is sustainable.

That being said they whipped us without one of this best players.

but they won more than 100 games and have the inside track for signing a lot of their good pitchers, plus they've still got kershaw, wood and one-pitch rich for at least 2 more years. even with some regression it would be surprising to see them not winning more than 90 games for the next couple of years at least.

It is not a particularly likely outcome, but:

- You can chart a course where the Dodgers drop a lot of wins without anything going particularly wrong. Seager is a 5ish win player instead of 6. Turner and Bellinger are 3ish win players instead of 5. Taylor is an 2-3 win player instead of 5, Jansen and setup guy combining for less than 5 (!) wins, etc. That still leaves them a good team, but again that's not a worst case scenario by any means.

- The Dodgers are over the 2018 luxury tax for 25 players at the moment, and they've exceeded it for 4 straight years already. They get a fair amount of relief the following year and they probably don't care about the 50% tax too much, but they probably aren't going to be chucking around tens of millions of dollars in AAV this offseason.

the season was honestly over when we walked an AL pitcher with the bases loaded in the NLCS. I would love a comeback, will still tune in, but honestly I am happy with consistent playoff appearances.

And well, I think the front office was acceptable at putting together the 2017 team. Unfortunately, it doesn't pan out the way we planned.

At least we can go to bed with a 2016 World Series champions ring on our fingers.

RIP 2017

2017-2017

Good night sweet prince.

My original post was that I hope they implode like the Mets after beating us in 2015.

Well, last time we went out of the NLCS in limp fashion things really took a turn for the better.

Until then, let's get drunk.

Do we go after Darvish next year?

What the hell do we do with Heyward and Zobrist?

Hendricks had a tough couple games. I still don't think we can count on him to be an ace.

What about closer next year?

I don't care about losing this year but this is a sad performance

Yeah losing sucks but it's still like "Hey remember when we won the World Series last year?" and it softens the blow, but this is pathetic. At least go down fighting and not just handing it over on a silver platter.

I’m on record as wanting to bring almost everyone back (Wade, Jake, Avila and maybe Jay guess Happ kinda takes his spot) then sign Cobb or Otani as well. Role with the same plan as last 2 years kinda, hope for better health so you can keep Zobrist a little more fresh and keep him at 120 games or less and I guess hope Heyward has another offseason swing change attempt.

Think about the talent we gave up to go for it this year and stick with Russell and Baez - we may have had better talent in the minors we traded away.

You'd pay Jake what he's going to demand?

the cubs are playing poorly (and frankly they didn't play too well against the nats either), but the dodgers also really seem to be at the top of their game. need to give some credit to them.

they didn't trade anybody to "go for it this year", don't do this

I hope the QO scares some teams away or teams are scared he’s more pixie dust than good so his market never materializes and we can get him for like 4/110 or less. I’d be out on him for a Lester type deal.

Jake should be gone unless we can somehow get him frontloaded for 3 years or less (so...no). Wade yes, but need to figure out either different personnel or a different approach for the guys in the pen, if not both. Zobrist has a no trade clause and is from here, so doubt he's going anywhere, but Happ, Baez, and Almora need to be getting the majority of ABs in second and in center next year. Jay/Avila, whatever.

Do whatever you can to get Otani, or at least keep the Dodgers from getting him. If not, I'll trust Theo to pick from Schwarber/Baez/Happ/Almora to get us a starter.

Looking at the NL Central, another year like this, which was basically a disappointment, should be more than enough. Only so much you can do to maximize your chances in the playoffs, so no need to blow a ton of cash on anyone not named Otani or Harper.

The only reason we win one game is that Jake is pitching for dollars tomorrow night. Would be nice to at least not get swept.

What? I’m kinda cool with keeping our 23 year old SS who’s averaged nearly 3 WAR a year in his first 3 years and is a great defender and already passable and likely to get better offensively. And Javy is perfectly fine when played properly and even as a Javy hater he’s shown improvements this year.

I'm not up to par on the entire IFA rules, but we have no shot at Otani if he decides to come to American this year, right?

People here know far more than I do, but basically every team has a chance. He's passing up a ton of guaranteed money. I started typing a half assed reason why, but this is easier...

There’s plenty of playing time for everyone, especially if Jay is gone that we shouldn’t really trade anyone unless we completely whiff on FA pitchers or a advantageous trade pops up but I’d just rather spend money on pitching than deplete the young bats.

After reading half of that - he'll be a Dodger. I Guess he can take over for Urais

Yeah, this bothers me less than the Mets series. The Dodgers are a legitimately great team this year. The Mets were a mediocre team that had four good pitchers happen to stay healthy for a year and Daniel Murphy.
