I'm pretty confident they will, but not taking advantage of a series against Philly while the Brewers are in LA is rough.

yes. losing 2 of 3 instead of winning 2 of 3 is "tough". we all want them to win every horsefeathering game. it's baseball. calm the hell down.

i'll worry when they aren't in first place. until then just live your lives and try (i know it's hard) to enjoy a baseball game if you choose to watch

your posts are dumb, and you should feel bad about it

It seems to me the Cubs tried to get a little too cute with the Rene Rivera acquisition. I would much rather see Caritini in the lineup twice a week instead of a giant hole in the 8 spot.

I just don't understand spazzing about little things in a baseball season (especially a year after winning the horsefeathering World Series). Anyone who has watched this game for a handful of years knows seasons have ups and downs.

I was enjoying it just fine until their left fielder made a shoestring catch that probably works out 5% of the time, turns it into a triple play, and then 15 minutes later we go from up 3-0 to down 5-3. We've lost A LOT of games this year we should've won. Probably won't prevent us from making the playoffs, but it's been a year full of plenty of frustrating losses.

I don't think we deserved to win today. 7 singles, 0 xbh, poor defense.

It happens. Move on

It's almost like some people have never watched baseball in their lives.

Jeez. Every little thing ever is the biggest event to ever happen. The season has been turned on its head 275 times this season.

so if they lose in the playoffs it's just an "off" year (theo himself insinuated that it's not likely but possible it can just be a "down" year for more than then normal amount of guys and horsefeathers can just turn south. though, this was when they were behind the vaunted brewers and now they're several games up so whatevs). or, they could get hot in the playoffs because they are like a 90 percent favorite to make the playoffs (i made this number up because i'm folding laundry) and if they get "lucky" we can say "hey, here's the cubs i've been expecting!"

either way they won the horsefeathering WS last year. deep breaths.

Plus....this is still one of the better Cubs seasons that has taken place in most of our lives. We're still a good baseball team with the potential to be great (which, of course, is part of the frustration.) We'll likely make the playoffs and play two teams (hopefully) with all the pressure on them and if we don't lose....we still won the damn World Series last year and in the grand scheme of things that's still awesome.

It's been a weird month, for sure. I said it a couple weeks ago, but we keep playing good baseball. And we're just not sequencing our runs well. We've had a ton of blowouts. And the offense has been really good the whole second half. But we keep losing a bunch of close games and it's made us muddle along for a few weeks. Part of the problem has been the bullpen blowing leads. And also Joe was managing drunk for a while.

But, it's also just baseball. We've been a unlucky lately. We are still a really good team. And we'll be even better when we are at full strength. Luckily, the rest of the division sucks. And we've got a bit of a cushion, No worries.

And even with the muddling we gained, like, 8 games on the Brewers in a little over a month.

Yeah, it would be a different story if these other teams were out here lighting the world on fire. But they keep tripping over their own dicks, too. It's frustrating that we haven't used that chance to pull away. But we're still very much the favorites. So it's not like it's the end of the world. Hope for a couple more losses today, and it's nothing more than another day marked off the calendar.

That's where I'm at. Losing two of three to the Phillies certainly isn't ideal. But if someone had told me, at the break, that by late August, the Cubs would be three games up in the division, I'd have been ecstatic.

Yeah, but it's still disappointing in a way. On August 1 we were 2.5 games ahead and on Aug. 27 we are 2.

Considering we just played 13 games against last place teams and the vaunted Brewers went on a 10-game West Coast trip that some thought would be the end of them, that kind of sucks.

Jeez, Brewers up 3-0, cardinals have the winning run on in a tie game in B9, Colorado won, Arizona winning early.

Best to just forget about today

It must suck more to be 2.5 back of a team that is clearly better than you. You had a whole month to make up ground, and you didn't and now there is only a month left.
