I have a question that I don't have an answer to which is why I'm asking all the knowledgeable people here: is the overall at-bats this season a lot crappier than 2016 or pretty much the same?

I know earlier in the year when they were struggling, they were seeing in the same range of pitchers per plate appearance and also walking at a similar rate as last year. I would assume those have stayed about the same since we are playing better. If you want to use that as a gauge for "quality abs." The situational hitting has been worse but the RISP hitting has already started to bounce back.

Yeah, I was talking more about walk rate rather than RISP hitting. I feel like we haven't worked pitchers much and haven't "accepted" walks for like two months, but I also know I'm talking out of my ass and the numbers wouldn't show that.

According to FanGraphs the Cubs BB% last year was 10.4% and this year it is 9.8%

Just looked it up... 9.8% BB rate this year (2nd in MLB) vs 10.4% rate last year (1st in MLB), we are actually slugging a little more this year but hitting about .010 points lower. I can't find the P/PA now but it's gotta be about the same with the BB and K rates being about the same year vs year.

Last year, the Cubs averaged 3.96 pitches/PA while this year its 3.93... Not sure of thats statistically significant enough though.

Baez playing more does this by himself probably ha

And I should probably take my LOA as Wilson let's in another run. He's just not getting whiffs.

This game has been awful.

A Bumgarner away from losing three straight series. And the Cardinals are just 2.5 out of first. The Cubs were the only team that bought in their division and should have started to pull away, they're not.

What the horsefeathers are you talking about? They've made up like 7 or 8 games since they "bought."

Is it meatbally to say I'm tired of seeing horsefeathers pitchers lock us down

We've scored more runs than any non-Rockies team in the NL since the break.

I know but think of how many runs we could have if we didn't get shut down by the Magnifico Gonzalezes and Cy Blechs of the world

So are we only scoring these runs on the good pitchers? I swear that's not the narrative I heard last week.

I haven't been a part of that narrative, so I don't really know

But I do know that since the break we had those 2 games and the dumb one against Suter and the one against Roark. That's half of our losses in the second half.

Suter, Blach, and Roark are a combined 19-16 and all three have better than league-average FIPs.

Also, you're not going to win every game you face bad pitchers. It's baseball.

Joe thinks they are playing like the first-half Cubs again. Let's hope they cut it out.

Rizzo might have pulled a Duker. The Cubs are 2-5 since he proclaimed they were fixed.

Joe seems to be frustrated lately. He's normally a "everything in fine, no worries" kind of guy but lately he's been pretty critical in pointing out issues the team is having
