Our 40th rounder, which was emotionally announced by Sam Hughes, in dedication to Stan Zielinski, is named Jeffrey Passantino, a chubby, Junior RHP playing at Lipscomb. He played in the Cape Cod League last year(imagine that!) And went 6-0, with a 0.64 ERA, 55 K's and 6 walks. He was named Most Outstanding Pitcher.

And for anyone new, Wes Saver is Yags from PSD. He's the best there is at tracking down draft signing info. Stop by and thank him on Twitter. Or politely ask him to sign up here, as I do every year.

That's his site he keeps all of this stuff stored on.

I'll work on my reports tomorrow and Thursday. If you want Raisin, I'll PM them to you to keep on front page.

How'd we do, in your mind, UK? And any idea if any of the guys like Meredith, Ruth, Cornwell, Smith are remotely signable for us?

Cubs 31st rounder Ramsey Romano is a re-draft. The Cubs picked him in the 35th round in 2014.

Four players the Cubs drafted last year but didn''t sign were re-drafted this year by other teams (two other unsigned 2016 Cubs picks were draft-eligible again this year but weren't picked):

2016 12th rounder: Trey Cobb, RHP, Oklahoma State – 8th round this year

2016 14th rounder: Parker Dunshee, RHP, Wake Forest – 7th round this year

2016 24th rounder: Reynaldo Rivera, OF, Chipola CC – 2nd round this year

2016 30th rounder: Montana Parsons, RHP, Baylor – 24th round this year (drafted out of San Jacinto JC last year)

Also a few unsigned HS picks from 2014-2015 were picked by other teams this year:

2015, 33rd rounder: Brad Bass, RHP, Notre Dame - 7th round this year

2014, 34th rounder: Jake Thompson, RHP, Oregon State - 4th round this year

2015, 37th rounder: Riley Adams, C, San Diego - 3rd round this year

Under Theo, we've signed 28 players twice, 24 players twice, and 27 players once.

If you look at this class, its easy to see us breaking the high end of those numbers.....

Top 10 Round Picks should all sign conceivably.....11

Seniors between 11 and 40....6

College Juniors between 11 and 30.....7

That's 24 that are close to written in stone.

Let's take a look at the rest.....

RHP's Peyton Remy, Braxton Light, and Jeff Passantino are all signing. That's 27. Could be the whole class, but....

Romano is a 4th year Junior we've drafted before. Gotta think he's a decent bet to sign. Logically, Karp is in the same boat. But, my honest guess is we get one of this pair....

High School SS's Vazquez and Messinger.....No idea, but I'm fairly confident we won't sign both. My normal guess would be one. But, with the size of the class, I'll say zero.

Coldiron and Vines are guys we haven't heard anything on yet, but based on class size, I'll guess no. Even if Cooper, as a college Junior should sign.

The 8 HS kids left.....Bonnin is no chance. Meredith, Ruth, and Ramirez are all top 200 guys. I'd leave a teeny, tiny sliver of hope we get one of that group. But, 10% shot or so....

Tanner Allen has already said no. Cornwell and Smith are projects. I doubt we'd give them much over slot and both probably think they're better off trying school, assuming that's the case.

Donovan is an Illinois kid. Maybe he's a die hard Cub guy and wants in now? Otherwise, I'd say no on him as well.

Anyway, even though I've said no on basically everyone individually, odds are we'll get a few of that group. My over/under line is 29.5 on the final number.....

Passantino is actually kinda interesting. Doing that well in Cape Cod and having at least some velocity to work with. Maybe he's able to unlock a little more or some better bite on a breaking pitch in pro ball and combine with the awesome control to become a somebody.

Karp will have 2 years of eligibility remaining, due to a car wreck his Freshman year. Could be a tougher sign, although he won't have a rotation spot next year for FSU either.

I would put a decent amount of money on Vazquez signing. He doesn't have a college commitment and he's from Puerto Rico.

But yeah, any prep player taken after round 20 is not a good bet to sign.

What's the general perception of the Cubs draft? I really like their first 3 picks.

The national guys all seem to think it was solid. Little and Lange were both drafted in the right range. Abbott, Uelmen, and Thompson are all guys that can move quick. Velázquez is toolsy. Estrada has pedigree. Solid draft that should pay some dividends quickly.

Cubs drafted a kid from Charleston Southern in the 19th round whose mother was killed in the mass church shooting. I hope he makes it.
