Still don't think we are playing particularly great baseball, the staff is collectively not pitching their best. We will get it going and when we do look out

Yeah, sweeping the Cardinals is great, but like much of the homestand before the road losing streak, the wins feel very cobbled together by a team just holding on as best they can. It would be nice to start mixing in some wins where it's not a come from behind victory, or a horsefeathering nailbiter.

This is where I'm at. This felt like every other series besides the one Reds one. Easily could have lost all three. Happy to win all three, but I'm not quite inspired yet.

On a side note, when Ross was talking about the Raji homer tonight, it hit me again how thankful and great it was that we won the World Series.

Have to give Maddon a little credit for taking Hendricks out when he did. A lot of managers would let the pitcher bat there since he only had the one bad inning and 82 pitches, especially with no off day until the 15th. But he puts Almora in there and it sparks the 5 run inning.

I completely disagree that we didn't play well this series. I thought they looked really good. I think the defense was excellent. And that's been something that has been missing throughout the year. The pitching wasn't great, but we're just going to have to live with that for now. And when we have the offense going, we've seen we can live without our elite pitching from last year. The main issue we had on the road trip was with how atrocious the bats were. The contact was just so weak and pathetic. We weren't really flailing away, though. And we were taking walks. But we just couldn't do anything when we made contact. We hit the ball well this series, though. Lots of hard contact, even on balls that didn't fall in for hits.

Keep playing defense like that and hitting like that, and we'll win a lot of games.

I saw some things that I really like as well.

Rizzo hard oppo contact

Schwarber, not only the GS, but had a critical 2-out walk to bring Happ up tonight

Almora with a huge hit off of a very tough pitch from a RHP

Happ crushed a couple pitches that were pretty high in the zone, his big weak spot

Good stuff. And the defense played really well.

Sucks that Hendricks has had a couple bad innings lately but I'm thinking they are largely anomalous and he will get back into a groove.

Yeah, the defense has really looked much better for the last couple weeks.

Error totals are overrated, but just three errors over the last 13 games is pretty damn good. The defense had been pretty sloppy early on. And they've mixed in several incredible plays lately to top it off.

The Cubs entered tonight's game 7th in DRS, and they should be climbing up in UZR now as well. It's not going to be last year's defense, but there's no reason this shouldn't be viewed as one of the top units again soon.

wrigley sounded crazy loud on tv this weekend. in the past it wouldn't have ever been that loud following a long losing streak, even with the cardinals in town.

I am going to print this article out, take down the picture my daughter drew for me, and place it there instead.

Honestly that article was super level headed and completely understandable. The comments is where you see the fun.

My favorite( Was this from a poster here?)

"Wow Hochman! You're about as yellow a "journalist" as that POS Tony Messenger.

Why St Louis will always be laughed at by the rest of the world is this one-horse town has a "little man" complex. Aside from the Cardinals and an occasional Blues ressurection, this town's claim to fame is a cheese-like food product that sticks to teeth.

I suppose when you hear Jimmy Edmonds trying to string a few cogent words together or that blathering idiot McCarver, you get all warm and fuzzy inside?

BTW, Game 7's solo blast by Ross? Insignificant? Not so much.

Anyway, I'm sure 30 million die-hard Chicago fans are very happy to know that David Ross keeps you guys up at night...well, aside from the incessant gunfire and sirens. Maybe Rossy will go out and get some heinous neck tattoos so you can try to hang a "copycat" tag on him?

P.S. I note your piece is largely satire. Highly fitting in a humor publication, barely suitable for birdcage liner."
