It'd be awesome. There's no way we're going to have 2 400 mill contracts between him and KB.

We possibly could if Theo's goons 'convince' Heyward to opt out after next season.

You're right, because we will have 3 (Trout)

Idk, we are entering a new era for Cubs profitability. If they really wanted to they could and I'm sure they'd make exceptions/right maneuvering to bring Harper in if they wanted to because it's such a rare situation someone so young and so elite hits FA (it's really only A-Rod other than him who has).

They kinda already showed this with Heyward, it was a unique situation where a very young and talented player (obviously not Harper level) hit FA so they made some spending exceptions it seems like. They weren't going to go spend probably even half of what they did, if anything, on any other FA outfielders.

This CBA is going to make it extremely hard to stay over the LT. And I don't think any team is going to do it consistently.

They could also get someone to pay a fair chunk of Heyward's contract if they had to. His NTC goes to just 12 teams that offseason. I'm sure they would do some maneuvering and doubt Heyward's contract will be why they don't sign Harper.

Ultimately, I bet this one ends up being more like NBA free agency and Harper (and Machado) ends up where he truly wants to be among the big market teams. These organizations will do some serious maneuvering to get where they need to be financially.

This is second hand through Barstool, but it's way too fun to think about...

I'm late to the party, but I thought it was already well-known that B. Harper wants to join the Cubs. His personality and flair for the game meshes well with the culture the Cubs have created. J. Maddon is the most popular manager among players, and we all know Joe will let Bryce be Bryce. He is friends with Rizzo and Bryant (they're not best buds or anything like that) and maybe some other Cubs players.

I really don't think B. Harper wants to go to the Yankees. He laughed at a report of him signing with the Yankees when he hits FA because of their stupid no facial-hair rule. Actually, I think you're allowed to grow a stupid mustache, but that's it. Obviously, if Yankees offer the most money he will sign there -- whether the stupid hair grooming rules stay or go.

I guarantee if the money is roughly equal or a little bit less his Top 2 preferred places are LA and Chicago. I'm positive Chicago is #1 and not just for Harper but a lot of players.

PS -- I'm also positive that if C. Archer gets traded his preference is to go back to the Cubs. I mean he played for J. Maddon so that's an obvious fit.
