I think I'd cave in here and give up 117 and 119 for any pick in this 98-102 range to grab Desmond King.

I think that would be a steal.

The more time there is to think about it, the worse the trade up for Trubisky looks. Rookie GM Lynch looks like he fleeced Pace here. Whatever story he spun about other teams wanting to trade up to #2 worked, but it was all BS and the 49ers got their guy AND a bunch of picks. What a mess

I didn't like the pick. Don't think Trubisky is going to be good.

But, giving up a 3rd, a 4th, and a future 3rd? That's a small price to pay to get the assurance you got YOUR guy. Those picks can(and mostly were) recouped.

SF's guy was Thomas. You could've let SF pick at #2 and still picked Trubisky. Who else was going to trade up to #2 for him? If the Browns wanted him, they would've taken him at #1. The Jets didn't even take a QB. HOU and KC would have had to give up a ton more than the Bears did to move up that many spots.

If SF is saying "we have people on the line who want to move up to our spot" you say, "cool, if another team trades up for Trubisky, we're taking your guy (Thomas) at #3" and call their bluff

Rappaport said someone was trying to get to 2. No idea if it was for Trubisky or not. Again, its security. Of course I'd rather have had those picks. But, if you truly love Trubisky, you don't take the chance.

If Pace is right on Trubisky, those picks don't matter at all. If he's wrong on Trubisky, he gets fired. And its because of Trubisky, not the picks.

They're running a football team, not some kind of fantasy Rounders strategy session. You don't try to soul-read whether they are bluffing or not, you put them on a range of possibilities and make the best decision for you. If you think it's Trubinsky, the price they paid was not unreasonable. It's just a matter of whether they are right about him or not.

yeah, it's a mess, the Bears only got a guy that they feel is a franchise QB and were able to acquire more picks later. jeez, disaster city. I mean what are the plans to recoup the talent they missed out on in the third round? what a crisis.

I like Jackson, but give up a 6th to move up 5 spots? Odd.

why are people overvaluing late round picks so much? oh jeez we missed out on some guy! hey look, a bunch of guys over here that didn't get drafted.

My top 10 remaining (for the Bears) for Day 3 of the draft:

S/CB Desmond King, Iowa

OT Roderick Johnson, Florida St

S Eddie Jackson, Alabama

DL Jaleel Johnson, Iowa

OLB Carl Lawson, Auburn

WR Josh Reynolds, Texas A&M

OT Will Holden, Vanderbilt

CB Howard Wilson, Houston

OT Julie'n Davenport, Bucknell

RB Marlon Mack, South Florida

Only the top 5 names are potential contributors this year. I don't see anyone that would start for the Bears left on the board.

My 3rd ranked player on the board. Like Jackson. I'm guessing OT or RB next.

When a team has needs all over the field, depth of picks is actually a good thing.

Its not that the pick has any exorbitant value. But, it just seems wasteful, now that we're down to 5 picks and aren't getting much out of our 1st.....Any chance to add a potential contributor should be valued. Didn't see the reason to move up considering the safeties left.

Number one, Cleveland probably didn't think they could trade back up for Garrett, that he would be snatched up by the Niners, but thought Trubisky would be available. QB's are seen as risky compared to less important parts like defensive ends. Cleveland was very close to taking him first, anyway, just to grab him. Why didn't the Niners take him? Well, again, first-year GM wanting to avoid controversy and not seeing enough of a sense of urgency in terms of job security to make that pick.

Jets didn't take Trubisky, because they didn't get a chance to take Trubisky. It's very possible that he's the only one that they wanted. The Bears didn't want the others, either. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. Your arguments are like child arguments.

Even forgetting all this, I ask again why Pace would think someone was trying to trade up to get Trubisky. How could he have known that someone was calling around to teams seemingly uninterested in him at the top of the draft? How could he have possibly gotten intel, informing him that someone in need of a QB was trying to move into the top 3 to take someone who wouldn't get past the Jets? hmmmmmmmmmmm....let me think.

if you think you got a player at a position that will be the reason that you are competitive in the future, depth at other positions takes a backseat. if he traded up for Solomon Thomas, I understand your concern. he didn't.

teams like the Packers have been competitive for years with little more than Aaron Rodgers while teams like the Broncos and Vikings miss the playoffs with elite defenses, and Houston limps in and gets slaughtered even though they have monsters everywhere.

Maybe Pace saw someone who wasn't just a guy and wanted to make sure he got him? I think that's how he operates. I'd rather have a GM that makes moves based on his analysis, and goes after players whose skills he values, than to have him stockpile dudes in the late rounds for the sake of roster fodder.

I mean davell, you're under the assumption that everyone on the board at the same position is created equal right now. are there lots of safeties on the board? yes. does that mean that they're created equal or that he's scouted all of them as closely? it doesn't matter if there are a lot of safeties left if Pace only feels that one of them is any good.

The fans can't criticize my picks if they don't know who they are.

Before the draft, I didn't want Trubisky at all--not that I knew anything or had spent much time looking into him. It just seems like there are QB's every year that are thought of as sure 1st round QB's after their first year starting in college, only to completely fall down the charts after a second year playing in college. I didn't freak out like so many people with what they gave up though. I realize it is only one spot to move up, but the extra picks they gave up seem like a little more than what you give to move up in the second round.

The first round trade ups for a QB seem to always require future or multiple firsts. I know it was from 15 to 1 last year, but didn't the rams give up 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 2 thirds? I believe the RGIII trade required 3 firsts and a second (and people like to laugh at it now, but the rams haven't exactly benefited all that much from the trade while if RGIII had stayed healthy, it would have been a great trade for the redskins. It certainly looked that way after the first year). The bucs gave up a third and fourth to move up to take a kicker in the second round last year. The bears this year got two fourths and a sixth just to move back a few spots in the second round--and nobody nationally freaks out about that.

I guess it comes down to if you think the bears played themselves and gave up picks unnecessarily or if you think there is a chance that they could have missed out on the guy they wanted. Also, I hope they truly wanted him and not just because he was their top QB in a year they were near the top of the draft.

Anyway, this article below made me feel a bit better about Trubisky as a prospect:
