The Bears season ended before the Cubs season this year and the focus has been on the potential front office and coaching staff turnover this offseason, and of course the draft.

4. Chicago Bears

Jabrill Peppers, S/OLB, Michigan*

The Bears are another team likely to be in the market for a QB this offseason without a good option at the top of the draft. Peppers would make sense, given Chicago's lack of difference-makers in the secondary. He's a true hybrid player, with the speed and athleticism to thrive in space and the toughness to play bigger than his 205-pound frame.

I'm hoping somehow Allen falls to the Bears and Watson gets to the point in the late 1st or the Bears in the 2nd.

Hoping for Allen or Garrett at #4 and a QB in the 2nd.

Mahomes, Webb, Watson and Kaaya are names to watch for in the 2nd round. They won't all be there I doubt, but maybe 2 of them will be.

Or do the Bears, being the Bears, know they have Cutler under contract for 2-3 more years and draft a bit more of a project like Kelly or Mayfield? That seems like a Bears thing to do.

I feel like if Pace puts together another draft like 2016 we could win the division handily. The only players I want us to stay away from that have been mocked to us are Peppers and Fournette. I'm good with Garrett, Allen, Adams, or a trade down, presumably so we don't reach on a QB and can get one in a proper slot.

I'm just not enamored with the top of this draft.

The good thing is its supposed to be loaded with DBs which are our second biggest need so take 3-4 and a couple are bound to pan out.

I would love if Pace got a haul in a trade back.

What are everyone's thoughts on McGlinchey and Cam Robinson (if the Bears can trade down)? Tackle seems to be a glaring weak spot for us as well as DB.

Staying put at 3 or 4, I would hope Pace would sacrifice a limb for Allen or Garrett to be available.

I might even consider them at 4 if they don't get a good move down offer, even though both may be RTs.

If we can be so bold as to make predictions about Pace after two drafts though, he will pick the higest upside guy available. That could point to a QB, or it could he something unexpected.

Eh. I'm honestly not overly concerned about the tackles. Leno is serviceable. Massie has historically been a slow starter, who gets better as the season goes on. And 1st round picks on OTs have not panned out as well recently. Eric Fisher, Luke Joeckel, DJ Fluker (guard), Juwaun James, Greg Robinson, Ereck Flowers, Andrus Peat (guard), DJ Humphries, Cedric Ogbuehi are some of the tackles who haven't made it. While only guys like Taylor Lewan and Jake Matthews have panned out. Seems to be a lot more success recently from the 2nd and 3rd days of the draft. I think Robinson's probably a top 10 pick. McGlinchey probably in the 20s. Too rich for my blood. I'd probably keep both tackles and bring in a guy in the 3rd or 4th round to compete for a backup spot. I wouldn't cry about Massie being cast aside and money spent on a FA OT (Ricky Wagner at RT would look very good).

Fun fact: Since, selecting Jim McMahon at #5 overall (1 pick after the 1st QB, Art Schlichter, went off the board in 1982), The Chicago Bears have NOT drafted the 1st, 2nd or 3rd QB taken in any draft.

Even their 1st round picks (Grossman, McNown, Harbaugh) were the 4th or 5th QBs selected in the years they were drafted. Part of me really wants the Bears to take a QB at 4 or 5 or wherever they'll draft because they haven't had their chance at pick all the top guys before. And they've typically had to "settle" for whatever QB they liked that was left, or ignore the position entirely, or trade multiple 1st round picks for a QB.

The typical response is "oh, I'm not sold any of these guys are franchise QBs". And honestly, I understand the sentiment. But I also feel the Bears have been sitting around waiting for this perfect QB prospect to fall in their laps for the franchise's entirety. And I think if the Bears do their job correctly and take the best guy available at 4 and develop them, that would be the ideal scenario.

The top QBs all, while not ideal prospects, have something going for them.

Kizer- prototype. 6'4", 230ish, huge arm, extremely mobile. Ton of upside

Trubisky- accurate, mobile. Body type to hold up in the pocket. A lot of upside.

Watson- extremely mobile. Ton of intangibles and experience. Winner. Big game performances. 3-year starter.

That being said, if the rest of the league doesn't think these guys are that great, then even if you think one of these guys is a franchise QB, you might not have to get one at #4. You can wait for the 2nd (or more likely trade back up into the end of the 1st) and get your guy.

The Browns are almost certainly taking Garrett at this point. They'll have another top 10 pick from the Rams, and can either get their QB there or (more likely IMO) trade that and/or one of their 2 other top 50 picks for Jimmy Garoppolo. So, if the Bears could get Jonathan Allen AND maybe Watson is still there (my top QB). If not, I am kinda intrigued by Kaaya and Mahomes and even Davis Webb.

Gareon Conley accused of rape, Matt Miller said he'd be surprised if he's drafted now

Peter King said he "could" fall in the draft

If he raped her, horsefeathers that guy, he gets what he deserves

But his statement today says he has eye witnesses AND video that show nothing happened. If THAT is true, then horsefeathers this woman for trying to ruin his career

1) I find it extremely hard to believe they'd be that dumb. But IF they were? SF takes Garrett at 2 and nothing else really changes.

There's a few beat guys thinking Watson is our choice at 3, or with a slight trade down. There's others that think the 3 players Pace said we're considering at 3 are Thomas, Hooker, and Lattimore.

Honestly, nothing should be a surprise tomorrow. Hell, saw something today mentioning our interest in Fournette.
