Did anyone here think we'd re-sign Dex to a 4-5 year deal? I just don't think that was ever a real possibility, or would have been a good idea. I'd be pretty surprised if Dex is very productive at age 34 or 35.

It sucks that it is the Cards, but he peaked with the Cubs and I'm glad he's getting paid.

Which of the 2 posts is this referencing? (Yes I'm still not going to go back and find out)

That tweet was posted on page 1.

That said, it is sufficiently hilarious that it probably merits reposting.

This makes me way sadder than it should. As someone who absolutely hates the St. Louis Cardinals, this sucks.

look at it this way, he's only going to be good for probably two years of the contract, and they're not going to be as good as us during that period anyway. Then in the final three years when he's hitting .210 and confined to a COF spot, he'll be soaking up $18m of their payroll.

Good points. Plus, now he'll get an extra month of offseason time to spend with his family the next several years.

it's nothing like that really

Sure it is

No

sure. Instead of a hated player from a hated team coming to my favorite team, one of my favorite player from my favorite team is going to my most hated team.

It's dumb, of course

So, the Cardinals 19th pick in the first round now belongs to the Cubs, right?

No, they lose it we get a pick at the end of the first round before the first Competitive Balance Round. So we will have 2 picks within like ~5 picks of each other at the end of the first with the one we own and pick up.

Dang...That's what I thought, but wasn't sure... Thanks for the reply.

So, with various teams losing their first round picks signing tendered free agents, the Cubs are looking at picks in and around #26 and #31.

Yeah, +/- depending on what happens with the rest of the QO FA's.

Good for him. We got what we needed out of it, and 5 years, at the rumored 16 mil AAV was going to be too much for this FO to commit. Dexter bet on himself last year, which ended up helping us, and now, he's going to reap the rewards of that by getting the long term security he sought coming off a career year. I hope he does well, although it's hard for me to buy that this contract will look good in 3 years, let alone 5. In the short term, though, that team is improved with him in CF, and Grichuk in a corner. Not really a "star" lineup, but the potential to have a lot of really solid guys up and down.
