Even with an 8 man pen I'd be surprised if he and Duensing both make the roster.

Does anyone know how hard he throws? Some brief searching didn't turn anything up. Per a Pinstripe alley post he's got decent changeup.

The Basics:

Name: Caleb Smith

Age: 22

Draft: 2013 14th round pick out of Sam Houston State

Size: 6-foot-3, 180-pounds

Fastball: 95 mph

Other Pitchers: Slider, Changeup

BBDP Ranking: 48

Position: LHP

ampa (A+) (6-2, 175)

BORN: July 28, 1991 | DRAFTED: 14th round (2013)

MOST LIKELY OUTCOME: Middle relief

ETA: 2017

NOTES: Caleb Smith features a mid-90s fastball, slider and changeup. Has reverse platoon splits and will need to be as dominating against lefthanders as he is against righthanders in order to succeed as a starter. He also possesses better control when facing righthanders.

Wow, those reverse splits are bizarre. I bet that's what makes him a decent target, he's already pretty good at the hard part so if they can find a way to tweak his slider or something to help him against same sided hitters, that's a pretty decent option.

So how does this work? Milwaukee drafted Smith in the Rule 5 and then traded him to the Cubs? We know for what?

Same Rule 5 rules apply even though he was traded? If he doesn't make the Cubs roster, the Yankees can take him back?

Same Rule 5 rules apply to Smith on the Cubs. I haven't seen what was traded, but in most cases it's a small amount of cash.

One day, Brewer fans will have debate on why they gave him up for nothing despite the fact that he was never in their plans.

He'll be their Josh Hamilton.

it was stated to be a cash consideration, perhaps part of the world series share
