Motion that we stop using David threads until he puts a bit more effort into the thread titles.

i wonder if he and KB will drive down together

the viral video will be hilarious in their brand new 2019 [sponsorship pending] while drinking red bulls.

Nice of Bryce to give his friend a ride after the shoulder surgery.

Bryce seems like a guy who drives one of those annoyingly big pickups. He can fit Kris’s death bed in the back for him.

So, with no other changes, we'd have:

Zobrist (Bote)

Harper

Bryant

Rizzo

Baez

Schwarber (Happ)

Contreras (Caratini)

Heyward (Almora)

I mean, that lineup *should* score a crap ton of runs.

Yeah that lineup is pretty Joe-proof. The most likely way he'll screw it up is if Zobrist goes back to 2017 (or just being 38 years old in general) and Maddon inevitably keeps throwing him up at the top.

Or he tries batting the pitcher 4th.

let's be giant whiny pessimists shall we?

bryce harper's average WAR the past 3 seasons: ~3.8

here's some guys who had a 3.8 war or better last season:

jean segura

ozzie albies

david peralta

tommy pham

scooter gennett

brandon nimmo

jt realmuto

whit merrifield

all fine players, sure. but no one i'd like the cubs to throw 100 million at, let alone the $300 million plus bryce is getting.

and the other two were 3.0 in 147 games, and 3.5 in 159 games (where Fangraphs HATED his defense).

He had his one 9.3 fWAR season, and hasn't been above 5 in any other season. He's a fun player who I would like to have, but he hasn't lived up to the hype. Any debate of Harper vs. Trout ended long ago

He has a career 140 wRC+ and .382 wOBA. His defensive numbers were flukishly bad this year.

It ain't my money, so I don't give a horsefeathers if they spend a buttload on a guy as cool and hot as Harper. But there's basically zero chance he'd be anywhere remotely close to being worth the whole thing, so hopefully he magically has a couple of those super seasons again and then opts out early on.

Manny- .822 Career OPS (926 games)

Bryce- .900 Career OPS (927 games)

Manny- 33.8 bWAR

Bryce- 27.4 bWAR

Manny- 30.2 fWAR

Bryce- 30.7 fWAR

Manny OPS last 3 seasons- .905, .782, .876

Bryce OPS last 3 seasons- .889, 1.014, .814

I get why we all love Bryce.....

But I'm going to be just as happy if we bring Manny in.

In fact, I honestly believe Manny fits this roster better. Because it gives you the other guy you've got to find that can play SS.

Don't get me wrong, Bryce is the guy I think is more likely to come here. But, I think.these guys are extremely evenly matched at worst.
