Hahaha holy horsefeathers!!! I'm going to ask my buddy Brian if he remembers a guy like CubbieBum. He worked at Windermere at that time.

That thread is amazing.

oh my god please ask him. Cubbiebum's name is Levin Black FYI.

What? Levin Black? I've heard of that name before from my Lafayette friends. That surely can't be the same Levin Black.

I'm sure it is.

Whatever happened to Mephistopheles?

I'm pretty sure he's had multiple usernames banned.

Didn't he eventually come back as someone else and stick around a while as a non-psycho poster?

Meph in a nutshell:

MEPH: I'm super into these new Sabermetric stats and projections. I think they're the wave of the future!

NSBB: Tell us more!

MEPH: According to my spreadsheets *beep* *boop* *beep* J.R. Towles and Khalil Greene will be Hall of Famers

NSBB: Ok, nevermind

I still think the arguments for Greene to have been a good bet to break out if someone got him away from the Padres were solid; I remember being really bummed when the Cardinals got him and figured he'd be kicking ass for them for years. He just ended up having personal/off the field issues that were WAY worse than anyone knew and it completely sidetracked him.

Basically out of all the ridiculous things Meph said, the Greene fandom ranks pretty low.

I mean, he was a dick about everything, but that's a boring thing to hate him about

I bought into the Greene analysis. He really did back up his theory with solid statistical analysis at a time when there wasn't a lot of that readily available. It was also one of the most compelling arguments that forced me to learn more about sabermetrics. At the time I was still just looking at counting stats and acting like a complete idiot.

Damn, those cubbiebum threads fall somewhere near dead center on the "Painful to Entertaining" spectrum. I had almost forgotten about his fantasized interview of Pelosi. Highlight of her career, I'm sure.

Meph was an uber-dick, but watching him argue advanced metrics was always intriguing. He may or may not have had me convinced enough on Greene that I went all in on him in Fantasy Baseball for a season or two.

My brain has long since flushed many of these guys, but who are some others who stood out as absurd/awful? My nostalgia has been piqued.

I keep wanting to click a heart on that Bum-Pelosi thread.

shut up, he's going to be married and have a hundred kids so he can have a hundred friends and no one can ever say no to being his friend.
