re: broadcasters, Smoltz is veering very, very close to Steve Stone territory, where everything is a simple problem to be solved by making a certain pitch and hitters are powerless in the face of a properly executed pitch(pitchers not doing so are "struggling"). Buck is fine, Smoltz is bad bad bad

Man what a terrible idea sending Lackey back out there

 

even if you pull him early, we're probably going to lose this game. if we have to win 3 in a row, we're going to need a rested bullpen.

 

Mr. Red-Ass is an easy scapegoat, but pitching hasn't been the issue this entire series

It doesn't really take a certain pitch right now. The Cubs would be fouling off BP fastballs

This is less about anything he's said tonight and more about his complete inability to see beyond the scope of his playing position. It's like geocentrism for broadcasters.

I stopped listening to the announcers sometime during the Dodger series iirc. Like TT said, Buck is tolerable, but Smoltz is just painful. How he has this spot is beyond me.
