Hawks are now 9-23 on the PK this year after 2 more PPG allowed tonight. That's a 39% PK rate. How is that even possible?

To put that in perspective, the worst PK in the league is around 75% ish by the end of the season.

Just setting up for not allowing a goal on the PK from about New Year's until the end of the season.

that might put them at about 75%

It is just a sample size anomaly. But it is a 6 game trend that is a concern.

I thought I heard last night that the franchise record for most consecutive games allowing a PP goal is 14 so we have that to look forward to.

The Hawks have now killed 5 of their last 6 PP. With very little cap room to go after a scoring forward I wonder if the seemingly small move will be to get a veteran bottom 6 guy that is good on the kill.

they looked pretty good last night, but i realize now that it's going to be weird to watch panarin this season. do we want him to be totally awesome and go crazy with the points, or would a bit of a sophomore slump help us out?

how would a slump help us out?

he's a free agent after this year and we are very very interested in resigning him, yet were very very interested in resigning guys like Saad and ultimately didn't because the price tag was too high.

Edit: And correct me if I'm wrong but Panarin wouldn't even be an RFA would he? He would go straight to UFA because of how he entered the league.

It might help us out, but I can't root for that. Root for awesomeness, and sort it out later.

Hey, the Hawks season started. How 'bout that.

I think I need about a week to get some sleep and mental break and then I'll be ready.

Here's a brief recap:

-The PK has sucked but now seems to be a lot better

-Anisimov and Panik are off to great starts

-Rumors of Marian Hossa's death have been greatly exaggerated

-Toews is off to his usual slow start but has stared scoring goals now

-Crawford has like a .960 even strength save %

-Kempny is good, Forsling has flashes, TVR is hurt. Campbell has stabilized things.

We now join the Blackhawks season, already in progress.

Hawks win their 6th straight, 4-3 over Dallas in OT. Hawks lead the Central by 3 points over St. Louis. Other teams off to good starts include Montreal, Washington, NY Rangers and Edmonton.

Finally got to watch them last night as whenever they've played there's either been a Cubs game, or I needed a break from sports on a Cubs off day/post-title.

Anyways they look pretty good. It's a long season but the Hawks were regularly being abused by teams like the Stars last regular season, and here they just swept a home and home. Looks like the defense is inconsistent but talented and improving. Overall I think a combo of a long offseason for the first time since 2012 and an influx in young hungry players has made the regular season more of a priority for the team rather than a grind to make it to the playoffs.

EDIT: I cannot wait to read this exact same article about the Cubs in 5 years.

i loved reading that, but why did he think the hawks were done going into this year? slowing down sure, but this team has never stopped looking great on paper.

the bowman stuff was kind of off base too. bowman has made some questionable moves of late, but overall he's done a nice job of navigating a nearly impossible cap over the years, and prioritizing the right core guys going forward.
