Stop me if you've heard this before...the PIrates got into a bench clearing brawl because of a play involving Jung Ho Kang and the only player ejected was Sean Rodriguez.

The pitcher who tried to hit Kang (which started the brawl) got ejected also.

Rodriguez is nuts and way over reacted (shocking) but this one is on Washington. Kang deked Harper into a slide into third and Harper got hurt because he couldn't slide properly and wasn't watching his third base coach telling him the throw was wide.

The Mets are a dumpster fire. Please god make the playoffs.

I honestly don't know who I would like the Cubs to play. Any of the three I believe the Cubs should be able to win in 4 games. I suppose the Giants scare me the most because of Madbum/Cueto but their offense is bad and their bullpen is terrible. The Mets have rotation issues, the Cardinals? LOL

Isn't it against the rules to fake a tag like Kang did?

I can't keep track of these things.

No? Guys fake tag/catch balls to try and deke base runners all the time

A fake tag is considered obstruction. A fake tag is when the fielder is at a base and takes an action that simulates an attempted tag, which causes the runner to slow down or slide. Faking a catch of a ball while not near a base or the basepath, is not a fake tag.

Someone explain this.

From the MLB rulebook, OBSTRUCTION is the act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner.

I've never seen a fake tag called obstruction. Peralta kind of faked a tag last night when Dexter stole third, it happens pretty frequently. From my understanding, umpires require contact to be made to consider it obstruction.

Yeah, but didn't Peralta just kind of casually do that after the fact and wasn't near the base? Fowler had already slid and was still on the ground and clearly wasn't going anywhere when Peralta just kind of randomly did it for whatever reason.

This seems like it's in super-subjective balk territory. It just doesn't seem like it doesn't happen that often like how Kang did it, though maybe I'm just reading too much into it. As opposed to Peralta, Kang was arguably actively trying to horsefeathers up Harper's baserunning.
