Rob Z and....

What is the 40 man at now? Any 60 day candidates or DFAS?

This is all so exciting. Guessing one of the moves is Lackey to the DL. The other maybe Patton down

Zagunis is deserving, so my first thought was Heyward to the DL with an "injury."

But this is probably just re-loading the pitching staff before a Coors field series.

Zagunis is out for the year.

Well I'll be darned. Looks like it wasn't even that recent either.

My guess Rivero finally gets his shot, Z becomes first pitcher drafted in the Epstein era to make it the show. Papelbon having not pitched in two weeks goes to Iowa for a tune up.

Technically, Zastryzny would be the first Theo pitcher to make it to major league Cubs. Godley made it up to the big leagues with the Diamondbacks.

Assuming that Lackey is DL'ed, I hope the Cubs still go with a 6th starter and let Montgomery/Cahill start as well as Z.

Is Zastryzny one of those guys who has good stuff and his peripherals are better than his actual numbers, or is he pure trash like his numbers would seem to indicate?

31/77 BB/K in 81 innings in Iowa seems pretty solid. But I think it's a case of 'this dude's going to be Rule 5 eligible, so since we have a 13 game division lead, why not give him a quick look-see.'

He's definitely interesting. He's got a solid FB, that may play as plus out of the pen. He usually sits in the low 90's with it, so opening it up in shorter stints could even see him hit 95-96, which he's done in the past. He's got a solid changeup too. His curve isn't much, so he's likely not more than a swing guy/spot starter, if given a chance to start. But, I'm pretty interested to see what he's got in a pen role.

I was thinking Rondon to the DL.

You were thinking the guy that just came back from injury would go on the DL instead of the starter that just left his last start with an injury and won't make his next scheduled start?

I'm a little concerned that rondon wasn't available yesterday.

If it was Rondon going to the DL instead of Lackey, I don't think that Zastryzny would be the guy getting called up. Zastryzny is the clear answer to 'if you have to call up a starting pitcher from the current Iowa roster, who would it be?'

I suppose Rondon and Lackey could both be hurt, but more likely Maddon cares more about keeping Hector from getting hurt again than he does winning any game in the next 6 weeks, so letting Grimm get 1 out in a meaningless game against the Brewers isn't much of an indicator.

Absolutely. There's a good opportunity to give guys extra rest between outings and Maddon has to take advantage. This is especially true with a guy like Rondo, when you consider the likelihood that Chapman walks and Hector goes back to closing next year.
