The Yankees apparently don't want to pay Chapman's $5 million left on his deal. Holdup is probably about that.

I'm not sure why we wouldn't pay that.

i really think the 4-for-1 is assuming extension, and if that can't be reached it'll look more palatable from our end

i'm not sweating it, but i'll be fairly surprised if it plays out differently

if steinbrenner approved, and everything else has been agreed on, it seems like that has to be the hold up at this point.

It's Sharma that keeps shooting down the extension idea though, right?

Either extension or perhaps deciding who is responsible for the remainder of Chapman's $5MM 2016 salary.

I hope that its because we are trying to get him to agree to an extension. if we walk away from it because we couldn't get him there I'd have even more respect for Thoyer.

Hardly seems like a deal breaker, in any case.

Putting aside the deplorable person Chapman seems to be, who the hell cares about giving up some A-ball prospect and 3 nothings for the best reliever in the game?

we're getting him for two months. and he's not the best reliever in the game.

also, i will never be able to put aside the deplorable person he is, but that's a completely different issue.

Good lord.

sheehan is underrated as a dumbass. he loves to pick issues and just harp on them forever. lately his fav is that schwarber is completely incapable of playing any defensive position and probably can't hit anyway.

On the handwringing, just wanted throw David's sig quote out there:

"The Cubs’ transaction list under Epstein and Hoyer reads like a work of fiction, a wish-fulfillment list composed in hindsight"

This quote is accurate. Practically everything they've done has been for surplus value. This may look like Boston Theo but it's Cubs Theo with Hoyer in the room. The dudes who have broken the game, assembling an insane pool of talent and the best team in the majors, comprised mainly of young guys with 5+ years of control remaining. All within 4 years of taking over. Many articles have been written on the rarity of such a thing being done so quickly.

The Trust Theo thing isn't just fun tag line, it's common sense. He'll go get more Torreses. Enjoy the ride.

He's the same guy who wanted to be the Cubs contrarian going into this season based on the plexiglass crap, right? I always confuse him with another guy, so I'm not positive.

That's fair point, though I wonder whether international signings at the top level become more difficult as the team gets better and more expensive. certainly our odds of drafting impact prospects goes down.

I'm not sure where he got his reputation. i'm sure it's earned. but I can't remember ever being impressed by him.
