At least for myself, anything short of winning the World Series this year is a failed season

Why not just spend the summer punching yourself in the face until October gets here then? It sounds like it would cause you less aggravation because you'd at least see it coming.

I can't see how they pull it off without Bryant AND Schwarber.

You're getting an old timey roll eyes smiley for this:

Seriously, they could:

- Have everyone healthy

- Have Jake rediscover god mode

- Trade for Jose Bautista, Jose Fernandez, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman

And they'd still have a 75% chance of losing in the playoffs.

Do you think people with such fatalistic tendencies to think that one injury would end the season just have less of a filter than others? Or are they hiding even darker thoughts somehow? Do they constantly check FlightAware while the team is travelling to make sure there aren't any mid-air collisions? Do they look up the health inspection report of the hotel restaurants where the team stays? How is following the team enjoyable at all?

Good point. That would literally be impossible.

Did the Reds just make a pitching change with two outs and a pitcher batting? That seems weird.

well dude had thrown a ton of pitches so it's not really that weird

Did not know that. I take back the weirdness of it then.

Never question the genius of Bryan Price. Especially when it comes to matters of the bullpen

I'm not watching the game but I assumed since he finished the inning and came off the field somewhat fine, it was a pre-cautionary pull and he'll be day to day at worst.

Geez, I hope you realize how poor their chances are they will win the World Series.

Definitely less poor than almost any other year I've been a Cubs fan.

It's not that I'm not enjoying this season, but after an NLCS appearance, it will be hard to not be disappointed by not at least making it to the fall classic this time around, no?

It amazes me how many people still don't properly comprehend this. Like you can't know that and still want the Cubs to overpay for like Miller and Chapman because "horsefeathers it"

In July? Sure. But the 2015 and 2003 teams both had a better chance than this one does right now. In other words, none of it means much of anything until you actually win a series or two

But what if they traded for Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, Jose Fernandez, Chris Sale, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman and Kyle Schwarber defied the odds and came back at full health after the all star break?

I'm sure we'll all be disappointed if they lose in the playoffs. There's a huge gulf between that and "At least for myself, anything short of winning the World Series this year is a failed season".

I won't argue that because it might be true. I think losing Bryant would probably lead to our losing the division and having to scratch out a wildcard. This offense has had some real problems as it is scoring against even mediocre pitching losing Bryant just compounds that.

Again, do you realize what the division lead is? Bryant is damn good, but THAT good?

Shut up, he's never going to play again and we're going to lose every game, but it won't matter, because we're going to die, and it's going to be awful.

Yup

Yeah, 2008 is still one of the most fun I've had as a Cubs fan, and it's not like it suddenly became terrible because of how it ended. I never get this mentality.
