Logically speaking, they're going to have to send Patton down and DFA Peralta after today to get the bullpen help tomorrow. It hasn't been ten days so they can't call up Concepción unless there's an injury. Guess Nathan and Peña are options.

Yeah, today didn't actually work out too badly all things considered. Patton is lousy and will be sent down since he threw 80 pitches, Peralta's career should basically be over, and Montero is our worst position player and he threw some pitches. Basically anybody in the bullpen who matters at all got the day off. Not bad for a game in which your starter can't even make it out of the second inning.

I've really been pulling for Pena, but he's struggled quite a bit recently. 11 ER in his last 10.2 innings up until yesterday, where he threw 2 scoreless, at least.

Well, Clayton Richard (though he's starting today on rehab in Iowa) or RJ Alvarez are a couple of other possibilities since they're already on the 40-man.

What's Soler gonna do, give everyone killer back rubs so they relax and start kicking ass again?

Give us a bat in the lineup that's better than Javy and also allow Contreras to catch more so Ross/Montero play less.

Seems pretty debatable.

IMO, not really. But I also hate Javy offense

Looks like I picked the perfect weekend to go to Mexico and not watch Cubs baseball.

Jesus Christ, what the horsefeathers happened?!

I'm not a fan, but Baez at least bring some value with his defense in addition to his offensive streaks. Even when Soler is kind of hitting he's just such a defensive wreck that it basically negates it.

They followed you to Mexico. Their stunt doubles seem to not be great.

Last year, I went out of town for my anniversary during the Phillies series/Cole Hamels no-hitter. It was awesome to miss the lowpoint of the season.

So I've been looking at everything I can for Jorge the past 30-40 minutes. I see no discernable pattern that drives when he is in a funk vs when he's murdering baseballs. Nothing that is any way predictive on what he will evolve into, anyway.

Did anyone else miss this entire series because of the holiday and family plans? I'm glad I did.

He's a very streaky hitter so far in his career. When he's not on a hot streak like he is 85% of the time, he's a pretty worthless player (bad defense, low OBP). I mean he could easily turn into a solid player but right now, he is what he is and the Cubs are trying to win now. I'd gladly offer him up in a deal for Chapman or Miller and then trade prospects for an OF'er that can play defense and get on base at a decent rate.

Stats/defense be damned, Georgie going well on offense seems like such a better player to me. At least aesthetically. Javy can come in and be a defensive savant to hold the lead after the 6/7 inning because Geoegie is a Donging leviathan
