I haven't had the same sense of "the other team is so screwed" with Arrieta this year and I think it's because of the spottier command.

Hard to say that about a guy with a 1.72 ERA, but I hear you. The issue is he still allows very little hard contact so he's usually able to create these jams and then get out of them.

And this is a very stupid thing to feel because...well look at the numbers but I still feel it.

I don't disagree with that at all and I think it's a stupid way to feel. I don't care how good you are as a pitcher if you walk guys it will eventually burn you.

Of course it will. Just not nearly as often as it would burn pretty much any other pitcher.

The thing about worrying about Arrieta's pitch count relative to other guys is that in most cases, the onus is on the opposing offense to make a high pitch count inning stick. If Hendricks has a 25 pitch inning, that puts a pretty hard limit to how deep in a game he's going. The average Arrieta performance is good enough that the offense has to do some work to avoid a 25 pitch inning turning into 40 pitches over 3 innings.

Trust me I get it and this is honestly just a byproduct of God Mode Jake from last June through the Wild Card Game. It's that and the looming issue of having to listen to Coomer soon.

Think that when Sept comes and if the Cubs have the division wrapped up Arrieta and Lester will have their starts shortened so they are ready to go for round one of the playoffs? Arrieta especially after last years results in October

I'm not arguing with you, I have the same feeling even though the logical part of my brain tells me otherwise.

As long as it doesn't mess with their routine. I question how much 20 less innings in a season impacts October when adrenaline is pumping.

Yeah I wasn't trying to argue more like trying to tell myself to not be dumb about how awesome he is.

Edit: The trust me part should've been "I agree with you."
