I like getting Rizzo some off days, especially when going against a SP with extreme splits like that and when Jake is pitching and thus automatic win.

I'd rather Rizzo be the 1 LHH in the lineup and Ross get the start behind the plate. Best pitcher pitching should mean best defense playing. I hate basing matchups on splits when you're taking out an elite player playing elite baseball the last 7 days, who's also an elite defender.

Agree that Rizzo should never be the lefty that sits against a tough lefty. He's struggled this year against them but has proven he is not particularly vaunerable against lefties in the past. Also I'm hoping that HR he hit the other day against the lefty is a sign he's getting back on track.

It's not so much that Rizzo is sitting against a tough lefty matchup. It's that Rizzo gets a day off, which we can afford, being that we are going to win the division by 45 games. And it comes at a nice time, with a tough lefty matchup on the mound for them, and Jake on the mound for us. It's less about the matchups and more about finding days off for starters and keeping bench guys like Szczur fresh.

Yeah I think we're in like a 20 game stretch without a day off anyway so you gotta do it. (I looked it up and its only a 12 game stretch)

Shame though cuz it seemed like he was getting in a groove along with Jason.

They're also facing a worse LHP tomorrow in a game where Ross is guaranteed to start, so if you plan on resting all the LHs, it makes sense to do Rizzo and Heyward today and Montero and maybe one of the switch hitters tomorrow.

This was pretty much what I meant to say. Just seems like a good spot to give Rizzo a day off.

Yep. It's like, "Well, I want to keep everyone fresh, so I m going to give Rizzo a day soon. Well, today looks as good as any to do so."

Joe probably doesn't care who we are playing, who is pitching for the other team, or really anything the rest of the year, in regards to maximizing our chances to win. It's all about putting certain guys in positions to succeed and keeping the other guys -- the stars -- healthy, well-rested, and ready to go.

Series already won, 9.5 game lead, ace on the mound and we have pretty good backups. I'm down with guys resting. Plus I'm expecting a pinch hit dong from rizzo anyways.

Jake's command hasn't been awful, it's just that the D'Backs think they're allowed to have great plate vision against Arrieta.
