I never thought I'd miss a starting pitcher with an average velocity in the mid-to-high 80s on his fastball so much...

Hand tendonitis? Really? Are you horsefeathering kidding me?

Hendricks starting Monday. Looks like it's Quintana, Hendricks and Lackey for the Brewers series next weekend. Barring any trades/someone internally taking horse face mcbutt's spot

Ugh hell with Lackey. I love Happ but id almost trade him for a Darvish rental just not to see Lackey anymore.

So I've been wondering about extensions for our young players and which ones would actually accept it. I think #1 for me is W. Contreras -- that guy is a young stud and I feel confident he'll outperform whatever contract extension we offered. K. Bryant and other S. Boras clients are going to be hard to pull off.

Anyway, K. Hendricks is the weirdest candidate for me. I think he's perpetually underrated and underappreciated (by fans/media). It also seems like he'll avoid the typical pitcher injuries because he doesn't throw hard, but that could be a false assumption. I want to keep him past his FA year (2020), but if he keeps losing velocity how much longer can he succeed at the big league level before hitters adjust and finally get the best of him?

What do you guys think? I don't want to lock up Hendricks for too long because when he enters his decline phase it could be brutal...

I don't care much to lock up a pitcher we already control for multiple years yet who won't be all that young come FA.

I agree. We have him under control for three more years after this season. I would like to add two more years to the three years of team control before his FA. So like a 5 year deal is what I think would be ideal. The problem with that is I don't think Hendricks or his agent would be down for that...

Never ever ever give pitchers guaranteed money and years when you don't have to.

That's how Hendricks becomes a hall of famer for the braves. And I will blame you.

and duke.

Kyle is immune from my curse. He's the only one. Probably a good reason to lock him up. Then I can just write every article about him.

Yeah I think he's gotta be the game 1 guy. Immediately following his DL stint, I was pretty sure we had another Randy Wells situation on our hands, but now it feels like he's 2016 Hendricks again. It would bring me great pleasure watching him out-duel Scherzer throwing 10 mph slower and moping around, while Scherzer is stomping around the mound throwing with max effort.

He is our ace. He has been since the day this thread was created. He will continue being our ace for the next two decades. Not even my curse can take him down. He is immortal. He's Somehow Greg Maddux.

He's somehow smiling while his mouth stays completely flat. His control is amazing!

Not for nothing, but this is also how my son smiles for every school picture. It drives his mother nuts.

Before the season I claimed he would have Arroyo-like durability but then the hand thing happened. So that was a bummer. I'm pretty sure he will never have a major arm injury though and should pitch into his 40s.

And be a thousand times better than Arroyo
