Law rated Heyward as the best free agent available two years ago. Granted, he mostly praised his defensive abilities, but suggested that Heyward could return to hitting with more power and even cited "more mechanical work" as a way to get there.

Nobody is right every time. Hopefully he was right two years ago and wrong two days ago.

Who's Klaw?

Keith Law. Definitely way in the know.

Isn't he a pretty notorious Cubs hater or am I confusing him with someone else?

I don't claim to know anything about a baseball swing but didn't Derrek Lee make the same adjustment that Heyward is trying to make now?

He's not a hater but he doesn't mind telling overzealous Cub fans that they're wishing on the highest star in regards to their hopes for certain prospects... and he usually does it in the most abrasive way he can.

Klaw douchey tendencies are more generalized than specific

He did take " I don't remember asking for your opinion" out of his Twitter bio so maybe he is getting more self aware?

yeah, law definitely is a douche. every chat has at least one person asking a simple question that he gives some dickheaded answer to. But when it comes to opinions he's better than most at actually having a reasoned one.

How long until Heyward gets a hit in Arizona? He is 0-13 so far. Can he get to 0-20 maybe 0-25?

I can't envision a scenario where he gets a hit ever again

At this rate, Heyward's "mental break" time off might need to be in spring training this year instead of August.

I understand the sarcasm, but at some point don't we need to be concerned? I know ST stats don't really matter, but I am worried this new/old swing isn't the change we needed. I think they should've completely revamped his swing instead of getting him to return to his old swing circa 2012-13.

I'm no swing mechanics expert, but I still don't like how he looks so far in the batter's box. The bat speed is fine, but his timing is still off. It is better than last year but...

It's pointless to read anything into spring training results at any level. They'll continue to work on hitting throughout the spring, and we'll see how things shake out when the season starts.

It's too early to tell. Changing mechanics is not going to be something that sees immediate results. The difficulty is trusting that it will get better and sticking with it until it clicks.

I haven't seen any ST games. Is Heyward grounding out weakly to second base like he's Juan Pierre?

Your timing is a little funny...and I actually almost reposted this in here in case people weren't venturing into the game threads, but he was 0 for the spring while looking pretty bad until he cranked a dong and lined an oppo double yesterday.

I think his swing looks better. Granted, it still looks ugly. But I like what's going on with the upper half, particularly his hands. It's a lot quieter. His bottom half still looks really ugly. I don't think there are quite as many moving parts, like last year when his limbs were flying in every which direction. So it's not quite as ugly... maybe? But I don't see how he can derive power from this still ugly-as-hell swing, that homer notwithstanding. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. God bless his heart for that rain delay speech.

I think or hope Heyward's Spring Training numbers are just a by-product of overhauling his swing to muscle memory and assume it's going to take some time to see better results. I know Spring Training stats are nothing we should take too seriously but with Heyward it's a little different isn't it? I think most of us wanted to see some improvement after all the talk about how hard he worked during the off season so it's tough being patient and I"m sure it' s tough on him too.

I wonder how long until the natives start getting restless on the North Side? He got a pass for the entire 2016 campaign, but I think the honeymoon might be over by May if he struggles in April, meaning looking as lost as last year. Although it might get ugly from a fan's standpoint I doubt it will effect the team too much. If Jason is strugglingagain all it means from a team perspective is Javy will probably get more time at 2B and Zobrist will see more time in RF. More Javy is always a good thing but I hope it's not a result of Heyward's struggles.

I'm not asking for a lot from Jason. Just don't look as lost at the plate as last year and we start to see some progress, just a little light at the end of the tunnel that he can turn things around. If the fans can see some progress they might give him some latitude, but if they see no progress, it could start to get a little uncomfortable.
