I don't necessarily hate this, but given the apathy toward the SCF involving 2 decently supported teams, I feel like the last thing the NHL needs is more teams. They have been very fortunate that teams like Chicago and LA have been recent NHL dynasties and not like Carolina and Edmonton.

The first thing the NHL needs is that 500 million dollar expansion fee.

 

 

So Vegas will be slotted in the Pacific bringing the West to 15 teams and the East has 16. I thought they would add another to make the conferences even.

I'm sure part of the savings will be for resigning Shaw, but hoping some of it will be to lock up Panarin long term.

 

Still lots of offseason left but we could be returning the same offense that started last year just without Teuvo (and of course Ladd, Weiss, Fleissmann). Going to have a lot of depth issues although defensively we should be better.

Do we hate him forever for this or do we cut him some slack because he was a huge part of a Stanley Cup run (the one that earned him the contract)?

in the long run, we weren't going to be able to keep saad and panarin, no matter what happened.

Then get Breadman an extension. Still think Shaw is more than likely gone.

This cash needs to go to Panarin and shoring up the defense. Shaw's given us plenty of great moments, but they've come with a lot of frustrating ones, and he's going to get paid too much for what he does.

 

It's amazing that we probably get a better package back for this trade than the Sharp trade, especially considering we had to include our top D prospect in that one. All speculation what went on behind the scenes on that one, but it hurts that we ended up with nothing there.

yeah it makes no sense. The last thing the Hawks need is another huge contract, unless they have magically found someone to take both Hossa and Seabrook's deals or something. Because its such an illogical rumor, no one would be dumb enough to make that up right? So there has to be a shred of truth to it.

It looks like it's been a rumor since right around the bickell/teuvo trade, because Malkin mentioned he'd love to play with Panarin. But there's no way it would work cap wise. I don't believe there's any seriousness.
