Screw numbers, Rizzo is the NL MVP in my opinion.

The numbers are pretty good. I'm going off B-R for WAR because Fangraphs is inexplicably down

(NL ranks)

BA: 19th

OBP: 5th

SLG: 2nd

OPS: 2nd

HR: 7th

RBI: 3rd

2B: 1st

BB: 6th

WAR: 2nd (4.7 behind KB's 5.5)

The only major issues are that I think defensive WAR is underrated him (just IMO from watching him every day), and the fact that he has a teammate who is also a major MVP candidate.

UZR has him as the 5th best fielding 1B

What you're seeing in defensive WAR is the positional adjustment, but among 1B he's highly rated.

Any concern with the fact that Rizzo only has 4HR in 135ABs since the ASB? He's still getting on base and he's still hitting fairly well(.831OPS), he's just not hitting dongs. Here's to hoping he starts getting it together for the playoff run and playoffs.

No concern.

Yeah, he's got his second highest monthly OPS of the season; guy is still ripping doubles, and basically the main difference is he has 2 triples in August instead of 2 more dongs.

i think rizzo is a [expletive] fielder tbh

I don't know enough about what defensive metrics are best for checking on this, but even with his error yesterday fresh in my mind, it feels like he's been an extremely good fielding 1B. I'd be interested in someone doing the work for me and telling me what the objective measures show.

UZR has him fifth best in MLB

I don't know how anyone can be concerned with Anthony Rizzo and especially for 'only' having an .831 OPS over a 5 week span. I don't think this is much of a slump, but even if it was, that doesn't mean there should be any concern. He had a month long slump last year where his OPS was in the .500s and he recovered just fine.

TIL that the Cubs are tied for the fewest DP in baseball (or at least, DP that involve the first baseman).
