It’s all been completely predictable, but I still hate the way that Stl has treated Dex. The dumb homer side of me wants the Cubs to trade for him just to bring him home.

It's not dumb. I think a part of our collective brains all want to "bring him home". It's just not possible with the current roster construction plus his contract and the simple fact that the Cardinals and Cubs just don't make trades with each other.

I thought about possible trades to extricate Dexter from the Cardinals and one that sorta makes sense is Ian Desmond for Dexter Fowler. Both of them have been terrible this year and have three years left on their contracts.

“essentially blocked/ignored” is such a meaningless phrase, just trying to smear fowler.

if fowler actually blocked matheny’s number in his phone, that would be hilarious and also an actual story. but “essentially blocked/ignored” means what, that he almost but didn’t stop reading the texts? what the hell does that even mean?

Miklasz spent his show yesterday reaming Matheny over this and other things, so I don't think that's intended to be unflattering to Fowler. I think the way to interpret it is they don't have the exact specificity of how Fowler is ignoring daily lineup/motivational texts from Matheny, but it's clear they've been tuned out by him.

It gets even better from there, because The Athletic writer Mark Saxon notes that Fowler’s relationship with team manager Mike Matheny has also turned frigid, that the two “barely talk and haven’t for months.”

“Mike Matheny sends out, I think nightly, text messages with the next day’s lineup on them and usually like a motivational-type message in there. And I think Dex kind of blocked those and started ignoring those,” he said. “So it’s not great I don’t think; communication between those two.”

That’s fantastic. Imagine your boss emailing you a horsefeathering fortune cookie slogan every night before you go to bed. “Dave, I want those TPS reports on my desk by 10 a.m. sharp. Also, character is not forged in the mountaintop but in the valley.” What a complete horsefeathering pud. I would purposely strike out in every at-bat just to own him.

For his part, Fowler has denied slacking on the field but admitted his time in St. Louis has been “up and down.” He was benched for outfield Harrison Bader last month and now the Cardinals, whose uniforms are the same color as a MAGA hat, are in tight spot where they really need Fowler to stop sucking. He’s probably too expensive to trade, but it’s hard to let him play his way out of a slump when he’s not playing well enough to merit a spot in the lineup to begin with. What on earth do they do with this guy?

I don’t know. I don’t give a horsefeathers. That’s not my problem. Personally, I’m glad the Cardinals are languishing in the sewer and are clumsily trying to Cardinals Way their way out of this mess, because they’re a shitty team run by shitty people and cheered on by shitty fans. horsefeathers them. I hope Dexter Fowler doesn’t even bother to wear shoes to the dugout anymore.

This is glorious.

Did we know Dex and his wife named his new daughter IVY ?

That and his comments Sunday about Joe and Rizzo probably aren't going to help him in the popularity department in St. Louis.

In response to Joe publicly supporting him -

“It was awesome to see that,” Fowler said Sunday at AT&T Park, where the Cardinals concluded a four-game series against the Giants – the Cubs’ next opponent. “I thank him very much. It’s a breath of fresh air.”

“I’ve always respected Joe for that,” Fowler said. “I didn’t even know he was going to say anything. Out of nowhere, I heard about it.”

Fowler’s second child, named Ivy Noor, arrived on July 4 and will allow Fowler to catch up with former teammate Anthony Rizzo when the Cardinals travel to Wrigley Field for a five-game series starting July 19.

“Rizz already has seen photos of the baby,” Fowler said. “Rizz is excited. But Naya (Fowler’s older daughter) is his favorite. She’s going to be a flower girl in his wedding.”

Yeah, Rizzo sure sounds like an awful bro dude off the field.

Sociopaths know how to approximate acceptable behaviors to allow themselves to slip mostly unnoticed in everyday society. The terrifying truth about his tinyface is that it just means his mask of sanity is even smaller.

Any teams they could trade him for salary dumps? He still has almost $50 million over the next 3 years, so it would be tough for the Cards to swallow. And also tough for another team to take on.

Would the DBacks take a flyer on him in order to get rid of Yasmany Tomas' contract? Wouldn't he be the type of player the Cards think they could resurrect? The money isn't equal, but YT is quite a bit younger and maybe seen as having potential.

What about Samardzija? He's due about $40+ million over the next two years. Or maybe Melancon?

I don't think any of these players really help the Cards, and Dex probably doesn't help the other teams. But like many have stated, I'd like to see Dex go to a team where he's appreciated.

+++++++++++++++

On a side note, not that it would ever happen. But if the Cards were willing to take Heyward back with his current contract if the Cubs took Dex back with his current contract, who says no first? Would anyone on this board make that trade?

The Cubs say no first. And very quickly. Heyward might not live up to his contract. But he’ll come a lot closer to doing so than Fowler. And at least over the next three years, the difference in cost between the two is negligible.

Also, Heyward would probably opt out just to not be in St Louis any longer than he has to be.

jesus, i know heyward has struggled at the plate but putting him back in st. louis is cruel and unusual punishment
