What's this [expletive] on WSI about Theo's ethics?

Meh. Theo has a reputation as not being shy to bend rules and such. I frankly [expletive] love it.

Maybe bend rules is the wrong phrasing, but there's been times where there's been smoke that he's kinda pushed the envelope on things.

For example, I still wouldn't be shocked if it had been true that we were in touch with Maddon before he opted out. Not saying we did, but it wouldn't shock me in the least if we found out somehow that it had happened.

Yeah, I would bet we contacted him. I would also bet we had that agreement with Soler long before he was eligible to sign. Theo's people skills are so good though, he can get away with things others aren't likely to.

horsefeathers the people at WSI just [expletive] cling to that 11-1 thing like it's the single most incredible feat ever achieved, don't they?

That entire forum is such a clear display of an inferiority complex. I personally don't hold any dislike for the White Sox, but they just can't go more than a couple of posts without saying how horsefeathers the cubs are.

I mean the 11-1 thing is very impressive and I think their RD was pretty high meaning they weren't just winning a lot of close games. It was a dominating performance that has no effect on validating or invalidating any other World Series runs before or after.

And honestly, even if I did get into dick measuring contest about this, I'd much rather root for the team known as a historically great regular season team that survived the playoff crapshoot than the one that was very good but not great in the regular season (+96 RD, 91-71 pythag record) and got hot and dominated the playoffs.

Yeah, I sometimes go to other fans' websites like GRB and that White Sox site, but I never ever post there. I won't register or make an account to defend the Cubs or tell them how stupid some of their users are. OH OH, Cards talk is fantastic -- true idiocy exists there.

I was surprised to see our very own Transmogrified Tiger posts on GRB. Why? I have no idea lol... He is well regarded there I guess. I was thinking about making an account, but what's the point? It would be similar to talking to a Trump supporter about politics -- no thanks. I'll pass, but I will observe them from far away...

i haven't gone in forever, but basically it was founded on the nsbb model, so a lot of the posters were cool and smart, even though they were cards fans. i have no idea if the atmosphere is similar now though.

I don't post there as much as I used to(partly because of life changes, partially because I'm better at not debating things not worth arguing), but I like being exposed to the different perspective and biases since most folks there are thoughtful and reasonable. Personally I also have some in common with many posters there since I'm a Mizzou grad with family in the St. Louis area.

I've hung out at GRB for as long as it has been there, though I don't post much. As far as rival boards go, it's pretty good. Most posters there are relatively knowledgeable and reasonable.

I like to go to Cards Talk to watch the crazed idiot monkeys fling feces at each other.

I have seen a lot of cardinal fans throw out the 11 ring thing online. I don't understand bragging about titles you never saw. I'm a packer fan and care about the championships I have seen and bragging about something your team did a few years ago is odd.

Southern Illinoisan right here, and I agree 100%.

Fellow Southern Illinoisan here, or at least I used to be. Grew up in Carbondale, IL but now live in the West suburbs of Chicago. Ah, Carbondale was different from the rest of Southern Illinois with a good mix of Cubs, Cards and a few Sox fans sprinkled in. Yeah, the redneck Cards fans that lived in Southern Illinois suck, but there are good fans down there too. Lester and Lackey totally remind me of people downstate, and I don't miss that.

Anyway, I hope in the future more people will start rooting for the Cubs, or that a generation of young kids downstate will decide to become Cubs' fans instead of Cards' fans. A lot of my friends root for the Cardinals simply because they were so successful, and it was easier to go to games. I was fortunate to witness the Bulls dynasty of the 90's which kind of steered me towards becoming a fan of all Pro teams in Chicago (well, not the White Sox). Success seems to be a big part of becoming a fan of any franchise (duh, obvious statement). I've met many Bulls fans from all over the country who became fans because of MJ and the 90's Bulls dynasty.

The last thing I'll say is I hate when people become fans of teams simply because of geographical proximity ... that doesn't resonate with me. Yeah, St. Louis was closer to me, but I didn't like the people or fans, and the city kinda blows. Something about the organization always bothered me even at a young age. I wish the majority of Illinois (in terms of geography) rooted for the Cubs, and maybe the tides will turn now that we've won a World Series. I mean I wonder what happened to all the Rams' fans downstate lol... Also, St. Louis is NOT as great a sports town as Chicago -- that is a fact. When their teams suck they don't really come out to support them.

This is an odd post. If you don't become a fan of a team because of geographical proximity then how do you expect teams to attract fans to the games? Then you go on to say you wish the majority of Illinois in terms of geography rooted for the Cubs. So you just contradicted yourself in one paragraph. Lastly, St. Louis is no better or no worse than other cities with Sports teams. When they win they show up, when they lose they don't. Just like anywhere else.

Oh BTW: Congrats to the Cubs. I didn't lean one way or the other to who won the WS but have a lot of relatives that are Cub fans in Iowa so I'm happy for them they got to see a winner.

What a cruel thing to do to Cardinal fans on the day after the Cubs win the WS.

Haha, seriously. I'm guessing it wasn't intended as a thunder-stealing move (I certainly hope it wasn't), but if it were that's about the last thing most of their fans want to see right now.
