The Red Sox didn't get an appreciable discount because he didn't want to go there and they paid up knowing that.

7/217 is not so far off what Price was expected to get no matter where he signed. He wasn't going to get less than Kershaw did because of the differences between FA and signing an extension. I honestly thought he would get 220 or even 225 and maybe another year.

If 180 was the next highest bid and that's what's been reported, they still paid up.

I've read a few times that Cueto isn't an option for the Cards due to some things happening between them.

Yeah, it was a pretty memorable brawl in which Cueto was kicking people, and iirc, Molina was on the receiving end. That might make for an awkward battery.

Jason LaRue?

Suffered a concussion and retired shortly thereafter, as I recall.

Yup, it was LaRue and Cueto pretty much ended his career.

TBF LaRues career was basically over at that point. He was an awful backup catcher

Those guys still get two-year contracts.

Was he even friends with an ex-Red Sock?
