Would anyone want pedro Alvarez on our bench with Wrigley's friendliness to lefties?

Sure, in the Daryle Ward PH role. But I'm guessing he'll be able to find and get paid accordingly for a relative/platoon starting role, no?

Dunno. Huntington said they had zero trade interest but that's obviously not the same thing.

Yeah I mean on a 1-2 year deal for a couple million I'd love him as a bench bat/hedge on a Rizzo injury but I'm guessing since he's only 28 someone is gonna give him a near starting deal as the strong side of a platoon as a 1B/DH. The Brewers would seem to be a fit and I could see the Orioles making a push for him as a cheaper alternative for Davis.

Between Schwarber and Vogelbach, we have pretty solid depth at the large, left handed man position.

A lot of money for a guy who missed three straight seasons before this year.

Was just going to post this. I could be remembering wrong, but it seems like he's made WAY more money than most non-closing relievers in his career. He was pretty good this year and good the last time he pitched (2011, only time he was a closer).

Where are we going to put the signings that aren't Cubs? O'Day got 4/31 and is staying in Baltimore.

Funny enough, apparently everyone jumped the gun.

From Brett...

Not only is O’Day refuting the idea of a done deal, he’s saying he hasn’t even reached an agreement with the Orioles. In other words, he’s not just telling folks to tap the brakes in light of the medical review (which isn’t always a slam dunk with the Orioles, by the way). He’s saying he hasn’t agreed to a deal, which typically precedes the physical.

Why the deluge of reports to the contrary from guys who tend not to screw these things up?

That’s not a rhetorical question, because I have no idea. This is a very strange one, and not something I can remember seeing in recent years (in terms of the confidence and wide-spread unanimity of the earlier reports, and then a player publicly denying them like this).

Blue Jays claimed OF Junior Lake off waivers from the Orioles.

Lake was designated for assignment last week in order to free up a 40-man roster spot for Edgar Olmos. The 25-year-old is a great athlete but is a career .237/.278/.377 hitter over 664 major league plate appearances. He seems unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster.

Cubs signed OF Kelly Dugan to a minor league contract.

Dugan was outrighted off the Phillies roster in mid-October. The 25-year-old slashed .274/.349/.358 with three home runs and 33 RBI in 310 at-bats across three minor league levels for the Phillies in 2015. He'll function as organizational depth in the outfield for the Cubs.

Some details on Dugan from someone who runs a Phillies prospects site.
