So the Bears managed to lose to one of the few teams that are probably actually worse than them. They get a bye week to think up ways to be more conservative on offense and terrible on defense. The Bears don't score many points, and neither do the Vikings. Minnesota doesn't do much in the air but they are one of the better running teams. Good QBs can have their way with the Bears defense but even without a good QB the Vikings should be able to rack up the yards on the ground.

Probably not going to see a line on this game for a while but I have to imagine the Bears will be dogs again.

Yea don't love our continually injury depleted front 7 against the Vikings run game. Still, if Fox can manage to not neuter our offense I like our odds as a toss up type game, which I think most of our remaining games are.

Also perfect time for a bye to focus on the Cubs. So please win Cubs.

Random player development Qs for the bye week;

Are we ready to consider a Fuller move to SS? He could even be a bit of a hybrid, playing nickel and SS in the base. When Rolle is back he either has to beat him out of is just full time nickel. He doesn't deserve a starting spot just cuz of his draft status though. Ball and Porter both are playing capable ball.

How about the play of Leno? He's actually looked pretty good out there. I still wouldn't turn down a first round OL, but it feels like we actually could have options on the line, and have a few spots locked down with young assets (including Grassu who wasn't pushed around as much, albeit with not as tough of a matchup).

Unfortunate to lose Ego for the year. Who's the best replacement here? Houston?

I watched the game on a crappy stream and I'm not even sure who played how much.

Fuller is fine at CB. Ball and Porter are playing better but neither are long term solutions. And 3 CBs played about 90% of the time yesterday. He'll play anyway.

Leno is not terrible, but he's not that good. The pressure Cutler escapes frequently comes from his side. But he stays on his block I guess. Seems perfect for a swing tackle.

Man Fox must have been really mad about that timeout.

Goldman probably a factor. I could see a player like Ratliff not responding well to losing PT to a rookie.

Also I used to like Hood but I can't imagine getting cut by the Jags bodes too well for him.

Goldman probably had little to do with it.

Yesterday afternoon, Chicago Bears security escorted Jeremiah Ratliff out of Halas Hall to the circle drive in front of the building, where he had an animated and heated exchange with general manager Ryan Pace.

Police were at Halas Hall around 3 p.m., which is not normal, so it it's safe to assume Ratliff, who has a violent temper, was the reason for their presence.

The Bears today announced Ratliff has been waived.

“We felt moving forward without Jeremiah was in the best interest of our team,” Pace said in a statement. “We appreciate his contributions and wish him well."

Ratliff is a four-time Pro Bowl defensive end who, when healthy, is still one of the better interior defenders in the NFL, even at 34 years of age. Yet he's dealt with numerous injuries since coming to Chicago, and has played in just 19 games the past two-plus seasons combined.

Does Ratliff have a criminal history?

Hopefully this heated, animated exchange was one way.

Ratliff’s apparent row with Pace on Wednesday morning was not his first run-in with team officials.

Last Dec. 26, Ratliff caused a disturbance at what turned out to be coach Marc Trestman's final practice, and he was escorted out of the facility by team personnel. Still, he was allowed to start the season finale at the Minnesota Vikings that Sunday.

Ziggy's a decent player and could fit in pretty well with this team. Hope he's healthy.

He's a decent fit in that he has some ability to get upfield. But he hasn't been much of a player so far in his career. He's a guy.

Oh and this could have been a real fun lockerroom with Ratliff, McDonald and Marshall. If only......

From last year...

According to one player who was there, Ratliff had a similar blow-up in a practice session before the final game of last season, and was told by coaches he wouldn’t be allowed to practice. Upon freaking out, Ratliff was asked to leave. Then he came back, pissed.

Practice was stopped and most players went off to the side while a small group of players and coaches tried to calm Ratliff down and get him to leave.

It didn’t work initially. Ratliff destroyed the game clock on the practice field, smashing it and kicking it. Later, he shoved an assistant coach to the ground. While all of this went on, Trestman never intervened. He just stood off to the side and watched.

And this is the most incredible part. The uber-enabling part. Not only was Ratliff never punished by Trestman...he was named one of the captains the next day. The entire locker room was incredulous.

Trestman justified making Ratliff a captain by saying he brought intensity, but no player bought that

Christ, how did this fool even run a CFL team? How was/is he even an OC? Did he just want to be [expletive] fired?
