if we can pencil pretty much all arrieta starts as wins, we basically are two good lester/whoever games away from the NLCS

With Arrieta ready to go in Game 1 of the NLCS on normal rest.

If Jake gives up 10 ER without recording an out against the Brewers this week, his ERA in the second half of the season would still be 1.69

There are no stats in existence that could convince me not to give Jake the Cy Young

Grienke and Kershaw have arguably been better over the course of the entire season. Can't go wrong with any of the 3 winning. I'd probably go Kershaw right now.

I think Jake gets it honestly. Between the 2 Dodgers splitting votes, Kershaw having won it 3 of the last 4 years already, the fact that those 2 have each other, and honestly because Arrieta is doing it for a Cubs teams many thought weren't ready yet gives him the edge in the media's eyes.

I would be all down for Jake as MVP at this point. Name another National League player that has been so valuable to his team.

Here's another one:

Jake could give up 5 ER in 3 IP against Milwaukee (more ER than he's allowed in his last 11 starts) and still finish the season with an ERA under 2.

...

Yeah, the Nationals' collapse has been amazingly epic, but there's a 10 [expletive] WAR player on their team.

Did Papelbon kill Harper?

Hahahahahaah!

I get your point but without Harper the Nats would just suck more. Without Jake, would the Cubs be anywhere near the playoffs?

Both are relative to how well their teams do; it's not Harper's fault his team fell apart around him while he's put up a .370 .509 .827 1.336 line in September.

Who would you have rather had on the Cubs this season, Jake Arrieta or Bryce Harper? I take Harper without even thinking about it. That kind of god mode-level offense in your lineup nearly every day goes a LONG way to make up for the starting rotation missing Arrieta every 5th.

That's not his fault.

and yeah, the Cubs would probably be somewhere near the playoffs without him considering they clinched with more than a week left in the season (and there's at least 2 other guys who have had similar importance to this team - doesn't make them MVP).

Seeing as we're 9 games up on the Giants and 11 up on the Nationals, I'm going to say yes, we'd still be at least near the playoffs without Jake.

Greinke and Kershaw splitting votes isn't going to be enough. It's probably going to come down to who has the most first place votes. The points are 7-4-3-2-1. At the very least, Jake's going to have to get a few first place votes, every other second place vote and hope that the other two are even on first place votes. But if he only has a couple firsts, he won't be able to make up the gap.

Jake now up to 7.4 total fWAR. What an absolute monster.

Cardinals, Pirates, whoever. Just bring them on man.

That can't be right. 21 - 6 = 15
