I was all ready to be five games out in the loss column; the Cardinals collapsing in epic fashion; and us kicking their ass in Chicago and winning the division after leading it for only, like, 3 days.

This sucks. Horrible loss. Get out of here with that, "It didn't matter much" [expletive]. Now I have to go back to not really caring what happens for three weeks.

Pretty much. This DID mean something, and this is a crappy loss. It's not going to send them spiraling off into failure, but being only 5.5 back with the series coming up would have been gigantic. Maddon should have been doing everything possible to step on their throat today.

such a massive [expletive] swing and a huge game

and maddon talked about wanting to catch the cardinals today too

I'm fuming. We had a chance to get them. God [expletive] dammit!

even if we make those two games up in the next two days i'm going to be pissed that that doesn't put us 3.5 back

exactly how i feel

after the peralta game, the 5-0 game in may at busch, and the first game in june in busch that arrieta pitched, this is definitely in my top 5 most annoying losses of the year... probably just ahead of the goldschmidt/ahmed game

I am still pissed about that Wil Myers homer game, where he should have been rung up the pitch before, too.

bryant's debut right?

Yeah, I think it was.

I'm going to let this one go. No sense in holding in the anger and letting it drag down the rest of my day.

i was secretly watching the game on my computer screen when a guy stood at my door to start talking to me and i had to hide all my rage as piscotty hit that ball. i'm not sure how successful i was but at least i didn't start screaming like a lunatic.

I was really hoping after the first two games that the Cardinals pixie dust magic had dissipated.

It has. That was a very mundane comeback win.

Their LOB% pixie dust is still hanging in there.

BE COMPLETELY RATIONAL. YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO GET UPSET IN THE GAME THREADS.

lol... I know. I just can't get over this game. We had them on the ropes! We could have been breathing down their throats when they came to Wrigley. [expletive] this wild card home game [expletive]. I wanted it all!

Really would help if the Pirates lost tonight. I know they've struggled against Milwaukee but I expect them to sweep em at PNC. We'll probably drop 1 in Philly.

i realize the irony in that i'm saying this (but i expected the sweep after 2 wins and going into the 8th with a 2 run lead), but you should never expect any team to sweep anyone. stop saying that.

and why the hell would you expect the pirates to sweep milwaukee but us to lose to philly? purely home/road is your reasoning?

thanks for allowing me to shift my anger elsewhere tho

Swing and a miss, champ

i haven't said anything all that irrational

i'm mad, but i'm not going around saying we suck or that maddon sucks and our bullpen sucks or something

Posted
probably the most irrational thing about any of this is me holding out hope for something that has under a 5% chance of happening

What are the chances that Neil Ramirez will be healthy enough to contribute in late innings by the end of the season? Or is it more realistic to hope for Edwards to emerge as a go to guy?

ramirez is toast

Still don't really want the Pirates to lose. We play them plenty enough that we can make up that ground ourselves. And if we don't, we can [expletive] beat these St. Louis chumps in their stadium in the wild-card game.

Well then. Now its time to talk about the series as a whole. 2/3 in St Louis is good work. Deflating last couple of innings, but nice series overall. [expletive] [expletive] spaghetti piscotty whoever and [expletive] his dumb team. Let's go gain some ground in Pennsylvania.

meh

3/3 in st louis would've meant something. winning the first two was cool and all but we needed a sweep if this series was to mean much of anything.

2/3 is as about good as 1 or 0 at this point.

yeah, there's pittsburgh but MEH

We had/have to go 5-1 in the games against the Cards. Would have been really nice to get it done here to put a bit more pressure on them. We'd have to pick up 1.5 in the next week and then sweep them, and even that would leave us 3 back with two weeks to play.

Well, if we win at a .666% clip (a la this series against the best record in baseball) for the remaining 25 games that will put us at 96 wins on the season and most definitely put us in at least the wild card game. Which Arrieta will win for us, putting us into a series against most likely the cardinals. I'm not worried or worked up, I'm excited. But I agree, [expletive] this game.

Yeah it sucks for what it would have meant to sweep the Cardinals down there. But I feel like a lot of you were yelling at people for being worried about only being up around 5.5 games in the wildcard, and this was at least a week ago now.

Even with a win today, and even with a sweep next weekend, we'd still have to make up another 2.5 games on a team playing at a .600+ winning percentage. It would have been fun, but this game wouldn't have pushed it out of "still a huge long shot" category.

we're already at least in the wild card game

we could almost play the rest of these games after throwing acid in all of our best players' eyes and still be in the wild card game
