Also, the raucous cheering of the Giants fans is irrationally pissing me off.

Yeah, god forbid they root for their team. What a bunch of morons.

It's more the fact that they're cheering like it's a playoff game.

i ihope the fans at wrigley decides to not cheer til it's officially a playoff game

I can't believe that as we stand here in late August 8 games ahead in the loss column to the closest wild card competitor, that there are people talking about the wild card with concern.

I'm not saying that teams have never blown a 7.5 game lead over a 40 game span, just that it's not worth worrying about on a day to day basis until it gets a good bit closer

the same dude who says the cardinals can't be caught is talking about how we should've been rooting for the cardinals to win against the giants because apparently our current similar lead over the giants isn't big enough

The team that has won 3 World Series in 6 years is much more likely to be dangerous and play well down the stretch than the Cardinals, a team that has a horseshoe up their ass, is going to choke away a big lead.

If the Giants play great down the stretch, it means they probably beat the Dodgers a few times and therefore likely won the NL West, in which case we still don't have to worry about them.

Oh, it's still irrational, and this is the reasoning behind my irrationality.

what's annoying about this loss is that the other teams never [expletive] lose. i can't wait until we play the pirates and cardinals. we're going to make them have nightmares.

Well I'm going to keep posting about our proximity to the Dodgers and Giants because I'm looking forward to when we clinch that spot like I'm a five-year-old counting down the days to Christmas. I also think it's completely rational to be "worried" that the Cubs don't play awful during this road trip and win at least 2 of the 6 games on the trip, which we have a really good chance of doing.

He kinda talks like he's got marbles in his mouth all the time. Really noticed that in Bojack Horseman

Maddon not giving a single crap whether a pitcher only gets one batter to start a second inning of work is one of my favorite things about him.

Whelp, I'm checking out of this one unless we go make a miraculous comeback. That should make some folks happy.

I know they've said they are working with Hunter on something, but have they actually said what? Like a secondary pitch or anything? Interested to see if we can pick up on anything down the stretch here to see if it's working (obviously results will likely tell).

Like I said earlier today. If the Cubs play .500 ball the rest of the year, the Giants would have to go 27-10 AND the Dodgers would have to go 25-13 for the Cubs to not make the playoffs. So unless you are concerned that the Cubs are going to absolutely collapse or both the Giants and Dodgers are going to get ridiculously hot (don't forget the teams still have several games against each other so each one is a loss for one of them), it's not yet a concern
