Dodgers and Nationals with an early lead, Mets/Rays scoreless

It'd be nice to be closer to the Pirates than the Giants by the end of the weekend

I would've never guessed before the season that the Nationals would not be one of the top 5 teams in the NL on August 7. Crazy.

the Nats have had some pretty scathing collapses recently. Would be all the worse to waste one of the greatest seasons by a player ever with Harper. But last I checked they had no other full time player with even a .800 OPS so I guess its not that surprising. Im all in favor of their complete decline if it takes one of the NL East teams out of the discussion in the Wild Card.

I'm still annoyed on Nats fans behalf that they did what they did with Strasburg 3 years ago. The future is never promised.

The Dodgers warmed up Jansen in the top of the 10th, then when they didn't score, left Johnson in before bringing in Howell to lose the game.

One job, Dodgers. One job.

Hmmmm. Which side did you fall on when it came to the Cubs making moves at the deadline?

And they had a 6.5 game lead in the division with an 85-53 record when they shut him down, so it makes even less sense to be mad at them for it if you didn't care that they didn't or didn't want the Cubs to do anything.

1)Keeping your own good player on the field and trading things to get another asset is not the same thing.

2) Incoherent game thread whining aside, I never came to a final decision on what I wanted the Cubs to do at the deadline. I was certainly hopeful we would land Carrasco or Ross, but the fact neither of them were moved to anyone suggests the price for either would've cost the Cubs things that could've helped them this year.

Obviously, but "the future is never promised" is a pretty sweeping statement.

What? It was benching him in October, in short playoff series, that annoyed me, not in September of a division race they had sewn up. That and no effort was made to stretch out his innings with extra rest or anything once it became clear they were going to be in the playoffs.

I dare anyone to tell me they wouldn't be pissed if the Cubs did something like that in the same situation.
