Joe, quit wasting your best reliever.

He's facing the best hitters on the team in the 9th inning after using him to put out a fire in the 8th. Pulling him is fine, but emphatically shutting the door when you still have Strop to close tomorrow is fine.

Putting him in during the 8th inning was smart. Entering the 9th with a 4 run lead, however, I'd like to see anyone but him in. Over 20 pitches now. Just not a fan of this.

If they weren't facing the heart of the Giant order, I'd be 100% on board. Because the heavy hitters were up though, you have a situation where you pull Rondon to keep him fresh and then you have to use another good reliever to shut the door if the heart of the order does any damage. Joe chose the option that let Rondon slam the door and guarantee that Strop was available tomorrow rather than try to sneak through the heart of the order and try to keep both available but risk using both today. I don't think either is a truly wrong choice.

still feel this way?

i'm guessing he does because i don't think he expected rondon to fail to hold the lead

he wanted someone else to hold it so rondon wouldn't be (in his words) wasted

Yep. I'd even trust Rafael Soriano with a 4 run lead.

Also, does that tweet mean Coghlan will be playing infield behind Hendricks? Ehhhhh.
